Searching with ProSearching MethodsPro has two search modes. These are:• Typedown searching• Single Line searchingTypedown searching starts with the most general address element and, oncethat has been found, moves on to more specific parts of the address. Forexample, with UK and Sweden data, this involves typing in the first few lettersof a place or postal code, then selecting the matching item from the picklist thatis returned and typing the first characters of a street or building number, PObox or organisation name within the place or postal code that you select.Typedown is the more useful search option when you are sure of the addressinformation. For example, if you are taking address details over the phone, youcan enter the caller’s postal code and then, if required, you can search for thecorrect street and building number.Single Line searching requires you to type in two or three address elements,each separated by a comma, in the order that they would appear on an envelope(for example, the street name followed by the town).Single Line searches can use a variety of techniques to return the correctaddress from incomplete or misspelled information. (See the examples in“Single Line Searching” on page 22 for details of these). For example, if youwere using Pro to verify addresses sent to your company on coupons, where thehandwriting might be illegible, it would be better to use Single Line searching.Either of these methods allow you to capture a full address with just a fewkeystrokes.QuickAddress Pro API Searching with Pro • 19
