Sun City AnthemCommunity PatrolThere have been recent reports of thefts of statuary, pottery, lighting, pots, plants and shrubbery inour Sun City Anthem villages. It would seem that these types of items are easily stolen, hard totrace, and can be sold at the local “swap meet.” Although involving more effort, someone diggingup plants and shrubbery can easily sell these to an unsuspecting homeowner. Being vigilant andreporting these offenses seem to be the only defense.There have also been reports of individuals going through trash and recycling bins late at night or inthe early mornings. Per the City of Henderson Municipal Code, this is illegal. If you see someonegoing through the trash or recycling bins, it should be reported immediately to the City at 267-5000,or “311.” To help avoid this activity, place your items out on pick-up day after daylight.Even though these events are occurring, Sun City Anthem has a very low crime rate. Here are some items to observe thatwill hopefully help to protect you and your property.• Criminals always look for an easy opportunity. Think of how you can make thingsmore difficult for them.• Keep a list of emergency contact numbers near your house phone.• Report on suspicious individuals & vehicles; note the time of day or evening, theirappearance or clothing, vehicle color, model, license plate number and any otherpertinent information.• Work vehicles, such as pickups, trucks and vans driving on our residential streetsbetween midnight and 6:00 a.m. would be considered suspicious.• Leave outside lights on and use motion sensors.• Keep the landscaping around your house trimmed away from the walls and sidesof your home.• If going away, make the house look “lived in.” Use timers that will turn on and offlights, TV, and radio at different times; stop your newspaper delivery.• Ask your neighbor to keep an eye on your property while gone, share house watchingduties.• Join your Community Neighborhood Watch program (CNWP) where “neighbors lookout for neighbors.”• Complete a Community Patrol House Check form if gone for three days or more.• Consider joining your Community Patrol.
