Details on the signagedevelopment process are discussed on page 34.BoatsThe project invested in two boats – a small speedboat anda large, traditional wooden one – since this is the mainmode of transport to, from andaround the island. The boatswere instrumental in projectimplementation and areintended to generate incomefor the museum after projectcompletion. The speedboat iscrucial in ferrying visitors toand from the island and the wooden boat serves to transportlarge groups of people as well as supplies and other bulkyitems.Improving community livelihoodsThe all-encompassing objective of this project was to improve the living standards of the community.Throughout the project, care was given to ensure the community members were given priority foremployment and in the supply of labour and construction materials. In the long term, it is foreseenthat the benefits of this project will flow to the community through the museum in various forms (seeCommunity Perspectives on Page 48).
