2 Rated electric characteristics of switchgearGENERALSTANDARDS ANDCHARACTERISTICSVERIFYING THEOVERTEMPERATURESPROTECTION AGAINSTSHORT-CIRCUIT ANDELECTRIC SHOCKSPRACTICAL INDICATIONSCERTIFICATION ANDCONSTRUCTIONRated current (In)This is the current value a circuit must carry maintaining the overtemperatures, in its parts,within the limits specified in the foreseen test conditions (see point 6).Short-time withstand current (Icw)This is the r.m.s. value of short-circuit current which a circuit can withstand for a certain periodof time (normally 1 second) under the set test conditions.Peak withstand current (Ipk)This is the peak value of the short-circuit current which the switchgear circuit can withstandduring a certain time interval and under the set test conditions.Conditioned short-circuit current (Icc)This is value of the prospective short-circuit current, fixed by the manufacturer, that the circuit,protected by protection apparatus against the short-circuit specified by the manufacturer, canwithstand satisfactorily during the operating time of this apparatus under the specified testconditions.Rated contemporaneity factorIn the case of switchgear (or of a column) with different main circuits, this is the ratio betweenthe maximum value of the sum, at any time, of the effective currents (Ib) which pass throughall the main circuits considered and the sum of the rated currents (In) of all the main circuits ofthe switchgear or of the part of this column considered.Σ Ibrated contemporaneity factor=Σ InWhen the manufacturer assigns a rated contemporaneity factor, this factor must be used for theovertemperature test, otherwise reference is made to the one indicated below recommendedin the Standard.Number of main circuitsContemporaneity factor2 and 3 0,94 and 5 0,8from 6 to 9 (inclusive) 0,710 (and higher) 0,6Rated frequencyThis is the value of the frequency the operating conditions refer to.
