<strong>Kerby</strong> <strong>Centre</strong> <strong>2012</strong> <strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong>FacilitiesAfter two years of constant construction impacts <strong>to</strong> <strong>Kerby</strong><strong>Centre</strong>, <strong>the</strong> Down<strong>to</strong>wn West-<strong>Kerby</strong> LRT station was officiallyopened in December of <strong>2012</strong>. As <strong>the</strong> heavy vibration, noise, anddisruption from major construction work ends, <strong>the</strong> remainingwork now focuses on building repairs and modifications <strong>to</strong><strong>the</strong> existing <strong>Kerby</strong> structure. Replacement of door hardware,vibration cracks in <strong>the</strong> facility, landscaping work, and warrantyrepairs are some of <strong>the</strong> outstanding concerns that will continue<strong>to</strong> propel <strong>the</strong> LRT project in<strong>to</strong> 2013.O<strong>the</strong>r significant projects within <strong>2012</strong> were <strong>the</strong> completionof remedial work on <strong>the</strong> Diana James Wellness Clinic andBoardroom renovations; in<strong>for</strong>mation technology changesincluding major server upgrades, and <strong>the</strong> deployment of 70 newworkstations <strong>for</strong> all users; replacement of <strong>the</strong> Lecture Room roofand <strong>the</strong> consequential Lecture Room repairs caused by leakingrainwater; and multiple upgrades <strong>to</strong> furniture and fixturesthroughout <strong>the</strong> building ranging from lift chairs <strong>to</strong> meat slicers.Be<strong>for</strong>e and after of <strong>the</strong> DianaJames Wellness Clinic<strong>Kerby</strong> <strong>Centre</strong>’s FIT Room continued <strong>to</strong> maintain its popularitythrough <strong>2012</strong>. A <strong>to</strong>tal of 2,952 workouts occurred throughout <strong>the</strong>year by almost 250 different FIT Room members. Free personaltraining sessions <strong>for</strong> FIT Room members was also announced <strong>to</strong>be continued, however it was cut back <strong>to</strong> 1 trainer, 2 days perweek and fully funded by <strong>Kerby</strong> <strong>Centre</strong>. This service will continuein<strong>to</strong> 2013.Special EventsThis year <strong>the</strong> <strong>Kerby</strong> team facilitated many largeevents: Calgary International Blues Festival(three times), International Women’s Day,<strong>Kerby</strong> AGM (which is never boring!), VolunteerRecognition, Ignite Your Life (supper andentertainment evenings), 70’s Dance fundraiser,Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra (twice), WorldElder Abuse Day event, Stampede Breakfast,Adult Day Support Program Stampede Hoedown,<strong>Kerby</strong> EXPO, Active Aging Week,Fashion Show, Metis-Fest, Diwali and our firstMembership Appreciation Holiday Feast <strong>to</strong> namemany – and <strong>the</strong>re were many more!A Year of GrowthMembers at our first MembershipAppreciation Holiday Feast12
