Adults mush theirown team of dogs and as the dogs pull youalong a snow-carpeted trail the silence isbroken only by the whooshing sound ofslicing sleigh runners. En route, enjoy lunchcooked over an open fire. Later spend anafternoon of games in the snow on thesloping bank running down to the lake withsnow shoeing, tobogganing, ice fishing andreindeer lasso throwing practice. Dinner atthe hotel.NEW YEAR’S EVE After breakfast, climbaboard your snowmobile for a safari throughthe pine forests surrounding Lake Inari and alunch of salmon soup washed down with hotberry juice in a clearing in the forest aroundan open fire. New Year’s Eve is celebratedwith a menu of trout from Lake Inari, KingCrab from the Barents Sea and cloudberriesfrom the Inari basin. Celebrations are notconstrained by time zones: the New Yearcomes in early for the Skolt, an hour later forthe Inari Sami and an hour after that for theNorthern Sami. As the evening wears onthere will be fireworks, dancing and fortunestold from the shapes formed by melting tin!NEW YEAR’S DAY Leisurely,late breakfastbefore a visit to a nearby reindeer corral tomeet a herder along with his herd, help feedthem and listen to Sami tall stories!
