Rodney has been the “rock” we depend on since 1996! Rodney is an integral member of our Salvage team, ensuring the nonperishable food donations we receive are safe for our agencies to distribute to those in need. Rodney volunteers in Salvage every week, in addition to holding a full-time career with Kuakini Medical Center as a laboratory technician. His attention to detail has also made him an integral part of our Annual Food Drive Day activities at Waterfront Plaza. Rodney weighs and records all donations received on Ala Moana Boulevard - no small task, by any standard. Rodney said he enjoys volunteering at the Foodbank, as it's totally opposite from his daily routine at Kuakini Medical Center. Continued from page 1 He was recently recognized by the Hawaii Foodbank and the Hawaii chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals as a 2009 Volunteer in Philanthropy at the National Philanthropy Day conference in November. The award was well deserved, as Rodney is truly an example of self-giving. All of us at the Foodbank are blessed to have him in our ohana. November 20, 2009 - Rodney Nagai proudly accepting his 2009 Volunteer in Philanthropy award from Annie Cadirao, Hawaii Foodbank Volunteer Facilitator. You can help feed our neighbors, co-workers, friends and family in need by collecting food and dollars for the Hawaii Foodbank 21st Annual Food Drive. Here's how: 1 Coordinate a food and/or fund drive: Talk to your manager about organizing a drive. Once approved, announce the date(s) of your drive and establish goals: for example, 100 percent participation or $10 per person. Designate area(s) for food collection. 2 Get support from the Hawaii Foodbank: Visit our website at www.hawaiifoodbank.org to download a Food Drive packet for information and request supplies. Or you may call our Food Drive Hotline at 954-7870. Then schedule a group meeting to plan your drive, announce goals, pass out supplies and generate enthusiasm. 3 Drop off your donations: Please deliver your donations to the Hawaii Foodbank warehouse at 2611 Kilihau Street, Mapunapuna, Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Or you may drop off your donations at any of our official Food Drive collection sites on Saturday, April 17. Simply place your cans or nonperishable food donations in designated collection bags on The Bus during your ride. Please save the blue collection bags Letter Carriers place in your mail boxes during the week of May 3. Then on Saturday, May 8 fill your bags with nonperishable food donations for collection by Letter Carriers across Oahu.
