Themanner of valuing every person, through word andaction. These are the bold features that leap off of aone-page letter from Paul to a “beloved friend.” Themessage is simple, yet beautifully profound: God’splan is all about relationships, and Jesus wants toshare the message of the gospel through our lives as well as our words.Philemon presents us with a picture of relationship as God designed for usto have with Him and with one another. The most staggering realizationfor me was to see that this is merely a “snapshot” of Paul’s life and howJesus works. What we see in the letter to Philemon is not an exception, but the norm of what He desires to be in all of us right where we live. It isthe expression of Jesus in everyday relationships. Would I allow Him to bethis in me? Would I allow Him to radically alter the ways I relate to people?Would I allow Him to make my life and relationships to be His message?”Order From:Evangelist John Juneman., P.O. Nelson PerduePThere is in the study ofmusic a phrase called“sympathetic vibrations.”Perdue's PenHoliness: TheCraving of theHungry HeartWe are told that if one has two or three pianosin one room with keen acoustics andyou strike a chord on one piano, that chordwill send vibrations through all the pianosin the room. This is a vivid description ofwhat happens in the heart of one who hastruly been born again. The new believerhas been regenerated by the power of theSpirit and is tuned to the voice and leadershipof the Holy Spirit. The believer now has a spiritual appetiteand “hungers and thirsts for righteousness.”(Matt. 5:6 KJV) When hearing thecall of God to holiness, something beginsto pulsate within the heart. The Psalmistsaid, “Let the beauty of the Lord our Godbe upon us.” (Psalm 90:17 KJV) The fact isthat holiness is the essential nature of Godand there is no higher motive than to seekto be filled with the Holy Spirit. There isnothing more desirable than purity andmore abiding than love. Purity of heart andperfect love are the characteristics of entiresanctification. It is this quality of characterthat fits us for communion and fellowshipwith the one to whom we owe our forgiveness. When this truth is proclaimed to ourspiritual ears we are immediately drawn toHis call as a moth is drawn to a flame. ★Fall 2011 / EVANGELISTS' PERSPECTIVE / 13
