REPORTING CRIME AND DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIORAll employees of the <strong>Miami</strong>-<strong>Dade</strong> County Public School System are under an affirmative duty to report anycriminal act and/or disruptive behavior occurring on School Board property to the responsible administratoror designee. This administrator has the responsibility to conduct an immediate investigation of theallegation and, upon verification of a criminal act and/or other law violation, report to the appropriate policeagency and to the <strong>Miami</strong>-<strong>Dade</strong> County Schools Police Department. (School Board Rule 6Gx13-4A-L21)The <strong>Miami</strong>-<strong>Dade</strong> County Public Schools Police Department will also determine the extent of follow-up byInvestigative Specialists.Students have the responsibility to report to the instructor or principal any criminal act or disruptivebehavior occurring on the school premises. All students should be notified annually of this responsibility.RIGHT TO PRIVACYEmployees are not to release any information on students' attendance, progress, etc., to anyone includingparents and/or spouse without having a signed release. Inquiries by phone or in person should be referredto Student Services.TEACHER CERTIFICATIONAll instructors who are employed at <strong>Miami</strong> <strong>Lakes</strong> <strong>Educational</strong> <strong>Center</strong> by the <strong>Miami</strong>-<strong>Dade</strong> County SchoolBoard must be certified in the appropriate subject area. It is the instructor’s responsibility to maintainproper certification.State and/or local M-DCPS requirements for renewal of certificates and extension of certificates vary fordifferent teaching areas. Instructors not familiar with the requirements in their area, should contact theirdepartment head, supervisor, or building administrator.Ignorance of your specific certification requirements is not accepted by the School Board as a valid excusefor allowing a teaching certificate to lapse. Instructors without a current certificate are subject totermination.TEACHER OBSERVATION AND EVALUATIONPACES is a method for observing an instructor=s performance in a classroom setting and for usingobservation data to develop performance improvement activities for instructors.Instructor assessment should serve the following purposes:• Aid the individual instructor to grow professionally.• Raise the standards of the teaching profession as a whole.• Raise the quality of instruction and educational services to the community.• Encourage compliance with professional responsibilities as stated in Domain VII.1-8
