The Gathering
They all anticipated the
day — graduation. On
Saturday, May 27 at
9:00 a.m., the class of
1995 gathered for the last time
to officially become alumni of
the University of Delaware.
After four long years of
tests, papers, and parties (not
necessarily in that order), the
senior class bid farewell to
Delaware during the commencement
and convocation
ceremonies, featuring Allen
H. Neuharth, founder of USA
Today, as the commencement
speaker.
Was it worth it? Looking
back, did their years at Delaware
make the seniors ready
to take on real life? "Probably,"
commented chemical
engineer Kristina Abiles. "I
Jill A. Ruckelshaus
Alisa M. Saggiomo
have no idea what I'd be if I
didn't have a college degree.
It was tough, but it was worth
it."
As they listened to Neuharth
address them, many of
the departing seniors probably
had a wide range of emotions
circling through their heads,
including what lay ahead for
them, and what had just gone
by. Abiles commented, "I
thought about how difficult it
will be to say good-bye to all
my friends, but at the same
time, I was thinking about all
the stuff that's going to happen
— moving into the real
world, and it not being like
MTV at all."
On May 27, the class of
1995 officially entered the
ranks of the alumni.
