Communal recitations are alsoheld in the chapel on Wednesday afternoons at 2:30 p.m. during the academicyear when school is in session, and in the church on Wednesday evenings at 7:30p.m. All are welcome to join together in prayer.divine office (liturgy of the hours)Liturgy of the Hours of Divine Office is the official set of daily prayers prescribedby the Catholic Church to be recited at the canonical hours by the clergy, religiousorders, and laity. The Liturgy of the Hours consists primarily of psalmssupplemented by hymns and readings. Together with the Mass, it constitutesthe official public prayer life of the Church. The complete Office includes MidnightMatins, Lauds (dawn), Prime (6:00 a.m.), Terce (9:00 a.m.), Sext (Noon),None (3:00 p.m.), Vespers (at twilight), Complin (before retiring). At SaintJames Church, the Lauds are prayed 15 minutes before the 7:00 a.m. and 8:00a.m. Masses, Monday through Saturday, during Advent and Lent.rosary altar societyEstablished in 1948, the Confraternity of the Rosary has as its purpose tohonor the Blessed Virgin Mary, and to secure her patronage through recitationof the rosary for the spiritual benefit of members worldwide. Members cometogether to recite the Rosary for Peace in the chapel every Monday eveningat 7:30 p.m. and enjoy monthly gatherings on the first Monday followingthe first Sunday of each month in the chapel auditorium. The Altar Society iscombined with the Rosary Society. Its mission is the care of the Lord’s sacredaltars. Responsibilities include ordering flowers, care and cleaning of altar linens(The Holy Wash) and vestments, as well as cleaning of the church and the chapelbefore Christmas and Easter.
