RECREATION PROGRAMS AND SERVICES REPORT<br />
Youth Activities<br />
<strong>Alexandria</strong> <strong>City</strong> Community Theatre (ACCT) held its third Annual “Celebrations around<br />
the Globe” performance at the Richard Kauffman Auditorium at Lee Center on December<br />
10. Youth celebrated the cultures <strong>of</strong> North America, Mexico, Japan and China through art<br />
projects and musical and dance performances.<br />
Staff implemented the “Power Play” fitness and sports program this past September with<br />
the goal <strong>of</strong> encouraging children to be more active, improve their overall health and to<br />
teach them the fundamentals <strong>of</strong> fitness and sports related activities. More than 50% <strong>of</strong> the<br />
children enrolled in the OSTP are participating in the program. This program is a<br />
component <strong>of</strong> the Power On and Power Up after-school programs.<br />
Staff collaborated with ASA to plan one-day soccer clinics for two age groups at each <strong>of</strong><br />
our afterschool program sites. This program will begin on January 17 and run through<br />
January 27.<br />
The Titan Youth Football Program hosted its annual Awards Program at T.C. Williams<br />
HS on December 18. Former Dallas Cowboy Mark Washington was the guest speaker at<br />
the event and he assisted staff in presenting the awards to youth participants and coaches.<br />
More than 400 people attended the event.<br />
The Girls’ Volleyball Program’s 9 th season ended with championship matches <strong>of</strong> the 9-11<br />
year old and the 12-14 year old divisions that were held at T.C. Williams HS on<br />
December 16. The program consisted <strong>of</strong> 165 girls, which is the highest number <strong>of</strong> youth<br />
we have ever had in the program.<br />
