Greetings to all Elk and Royal
Purple Members:
As my term as Provincial President
draws to a close it has been a very
gratifying and rewarding experience,
one that I’ll always remember.
Thank you to the Lodges and members
for the warm reception and
hospitality that I received during my
30 regular visitations. I also thank
everyone that attended my visits
over the year and those that billeted
and provided me transportation
when away from home. To the
Grand Lodge Office your support
A L B E R T A
and help was always there whenever
I needed it. I am very proud of our
Provincial Association, Foundation
and the District Deputies for the fine
job they performed for me and the
Lodges within the Association this
past year.
As I am writing this our Spring
District Meetings are commencing
and the 14 Districts will be electing
new District Deputies for the ensuing
term. The current District
Deputies along with their liaison officers
will be facilitating Lodge
Planning clinics at these meetings
to assist Lodges in planning and
developing their ensuing year.
The Grand Lodge Member Services
Committee has scheduled the first
leadership training seminar for April
30th in Calgary for a group of Lodge
future leaders that were provided to
me during my visits. To these individuals
selected, please take the
time to attend these valuable training
sessions for the betterment of
yourself, your Lodge and Elkdom.
To celebrate our centennial year I
have asked most Lodges to have
their mayor declare a week in the
summer of 2012 as Elks week. This
should be quite easy for the smaller
communities and at the same time
put on some kind of a celebration to
let your community know who you

are and what we are all about.
As well, I have stressed to the
Lodges that I believe the most
important Officer in your Lodge
today is the Membership Director.
Without members there is no Lodge.
Please elect someone that will keep
in touch with your members, find out
their concerns with the Lodge and
relay that information to the leaders
to rectify any problems to keep the
momentum going. It’s the
Membership Director’s job to get
you, the members, recruiting neighbors,
friends and relatives; it’s the
Membership Director’s job to put on
a membership evening usually in
November, as that is membership
month and to assign an Elk “buddy”
to the new and delinquent members.
In closing, again thank you to all the
Lodges I have visited for your warm
welcome and hospitality and I am
looking forward to more visitations
and anniversaries prior to the
Conference in Drayton Valley June
2nd to 4th.
