About ASIDASID is a community of people—designers, industry representatives, educators andstudents—committed to interior design. Its more than 38,000 members engagein a variety of professional programs and activities through a network of 48 chaptersthroughout the United States and Canada.More About ASIDFounded in 1975 with the consolidation of the American Institute of Decorators (AID)and the National Society of Interior Designers (NSID), the American Society of InteriorDesigners is the oldest, largest and leading professional organization for interiordesigners.Of the Society’s 20,000 practicing interior designers, 6,500 practice primarily inthe commercial field with 4,000 practicing primarily as residential designers. Theremaining 9,500 work in both commercial and residential design. Professional membersof ASID must pass rigorous acceptance standards: They must have a combinationof accredited design education and/or full-time work experience and pass a two-dayaccreditation examination administered by the National Council for Interior DesignQualification (NCIDQ).ASID Industry Partners include more than 2,200 member firms with more than 6,000individual representatives, uniting the professional designer with manufacturers ofdesign-related products and services.The Society’s membership also includes more than 12,000 students of interiordesign.
