New exploration in Guelph, Ontario leading to
Recognized Mission Status for Word of Life
Lutheran Church, Guelph, Ontario
7. Continued Work Throughout All Transitions
The Missions Committee
The Department re-affirmed the Partner-to-PartnerPlan,
whereby congregations can partner with specific
District assisted ministries ‘over and above’ their
regular missions offerings. Coupling this program with
the 125 th Thank-offering ministry has enabled
ministries to be continued and even expanded over the
triennium.
At the same time, however, the department for
Outreach has realized the need to prioritize its outreach
activities and the work it does according to the past
District Convention’s resolutions and the new
opportunities that are presented to it, in order for the
district’s limited resources to be utilized effectively.
Our District Convention affirmed the “Both/And”
principle – which indicated a desire to balance
sustaining current ministries while taking advantage of
new opportunities the Lord provides. Throughout the
triennium we continued to work in partnership with the
LWMLC Canada, LWML Ontario District and the
LWML Laurentian District on mission development
opportunities within the East District.
In addition, the Missions Committee also. . .
In April 2008 held one of its meetings in
Timmins and Sudbury, and aims to hold one
of its meetings in Quebec in 2011
 Will re-initiate the Missionaries Conference
for all District pastors of assisted
congregations
Assisted seminary students from CLTS in the
Evangelism course through financial aid as
they travelled to assisted congregations to
gain experience.
Continues to oversee the pastoral care of
small remote congregations
Recognizes the need to review the policy and
procedures manual regularly
Continues to set and review the priority for
the work and types of work for Mission
Outreach within the East District.
The Social Ministry Committee
Has set goals to. . .
Develop a website to connect churches in the
East District, offering idea exchange and
questions in the area of youth work and to
E. 41
allow LCC congregation members a place to
seek or offer employment.
Promote the formation of Social Ministry
Committees in congregations across the
District, to create a manual with a needs
assessment format, and to present the ideas
and materials at Winkels and wherever
possible.
 Find ways to reach out to aboriginal peoples;
asking the Lutheran Church of Australia for
their experiences and research opportunities
Compile a list of Christian Marriage
Counselors for lay people and possibly also
for pastors, and to interview each of them.
Conduct a survey of the East District to
understand and identify the social ministry
initiatives being done in the congregations.
The Evangelism Committee
Has set out the following objectives. . .
To conduct Apologetics 3:15…. The weeding
through all the internet material available to
not duplicate efforts to create a potential list
of topics with the goal to have short folders
on different topics with a Bible Study
available to utilize.
To broaden the Evangelism Committee to
include members from the “Evangelism Task-
Force” which came to conclusion. Seek out
new members.
To guide congregations to encourage youth to
faithful participation in Divine Service and in
serving both within and without the
congregation.
To request assisted congregations to supply
the District with collects for use on Sunday
mornings throughout our congregations.
Department for Parish Services
