Maxwell of Terrauglitie, Dumfries.Donations.—The Secretary laid on tlie table the 5th AnnualReport of the United States Geological Survey ; the AnnualReport of the Smithsonian Institution for 1884 ; Report of thePeabody Museum, 1885, as donations from the SmithsonianInstitution ;and two numbers of tlie Pliytologist containing listsof local hepatics and mosses from Mr Peter Gray. A land-rail(Crex pratensia) from Mr W. J. Maxwell, Terregles Banks.Exhibits.—Mr George Johnstone exhibited two pieces of tliesandstonerock from Corsehill Quarry, near Annan, in the shapeof a man's foot and leg, and remarked that tliey were of thisshape wlien quarried. The Chairman explained that he believedtliese two curiously shaped stones to be tlie casts of plants, «kc.,formed at the time of the deposition of the rock by the removalof the original substance, the sand tilling the vacant places.There were no characteristic markings to enable the determiningof the species. The Chairman exhibited several specimens of theCotton Moth, which had been sent him by Dr Grant Bey, ofCairo. This moth ( Enrias Insidana) was first discovered inMadagascar, and is known to be very destructive to the cotton
