Freshman Haley Schulman wasthe third selection.Taylor Anderson and Ashlee Vivirito were named All- Farinas KingSchulmanSecond team.Marauder Baseball, which lost its chance for playoffs and a 20 win season on Thursdaywith a 5-1 loss at Rio Hondo found some bright spots in their last game of the season.AVC ended the season by winning its last Foothill Conference game against Rio Hondo8-2. The win ended the Marauders season at 19-14-1 - their first winning season in sixyears and marks only the fourth time in 25 years AVC has won more than it has lost in aseason.In the game, Matthew Vasquez threw eight innings, giving up just four hits in getting thewin. At the plate, eight Marauders had at least one hit, with Ryan Marshall hitting a tripleand had four RBI on the day.Marauder Track and Field competed in the Western State Conference championships.The women finished eighth with 32 points and the men ninth with 42.3.The Marauders had no individual titlists, but three were on the podium - Patrick Larkinand Eric Bravo who were second and third, respectively, in the hammer, Destiny Wilsonwho was second the 400 hurdles, and the women's 4x400 relay team which was third.Mon., Apr. 29Tue., Apr. 30Sat., May 11Charles Johnson, who played football at AVC in the 2008 season, was the seventh draftpick by the Green Bay Packers, marking the first Marauder to be drafted who had playedunder head coach Perry Jehlicka.Johnson, who was the 216th pick in this year’s draft, played for the Marauder team thatwon the American Pacific championship and played in the Western State Bowl againstCanyons.It was in that bowl game that Johnson had his best day as a Marauder, receiving eightpasses for 121 yards and a TD.At AVC in 2008, he was their leading receiver with 30 catches for 352 yards and fourTDs, was fourth in scoring and was named second team All-American Pacific Division.He moved on to Grand Valley State, where he led the Lakers in receiving, with a two yeartotal of 128 receptions for 2229 yards and 31 TDs.Marauder Baseball placed four players on the All-Foothill Conference teams, two on firstand two on second.Making the first team were outfielder Aaron Owen, who led AVC in batting with a .389average as well as slugging percentage, and infielder Dylan Lohman who was third inhitting and led AVC in RBI.On the second team was Andrew Rabiej whose six wins and 71.1 inning pitched led AVCand his 3.79 ERA was second, as well as Sho Serrano who was second in hitting for AVC.Marauder Track and Field's Emma Ramirez ran 4:46.44 to finish third in the SoCalregionals and qualify for the state meet. It marks the 24th straight year a Marauder willbe competing for the State title and the 32nd straight time a Mark Covert coached athletewill compete in state.
