Sat., Feb. 23With two m<strong>in</strong>utes left, <strong>Marauder</strong> Women's Basketball looked like it could make thatupset on the No. 4 Mt. San Jac<strong>in</strong>to that could, could just put them <strong>in</strong> the playoffs, butended up los<strong>in</strong>g 58-52. After AVC tied the game with two m<strong>in</strong>utes left, T<strong>in</strong>a Fantroy hither only three <strong>in</strong> <strong>13</strong> attempts with 1:15 left that all but iced the game. Tyreshay Floresscored 14 to lead AVC, who missed four unchallenged layups <strong>in</strong> the second half.<strong>Marauder</strong> Men's Basketball needed to respond to the loss at San Bernard<strong>in</strong>o <strong>Valley</strong> thatkept them from w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g the Foothill Conference title, and they had to do so aga<strong>in</strong>st a Mt.San Jac<strong>in</strong>to team that was fight<strong>in</strong>g hard for a good seed<strong>in</strong>g after a horrible conferenceseason. The <strong>Marauder</strong>s did, w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g 90-79 and f<strong>in</strong>ish<strong>in</strong>g a disappo<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g second <strong>in</strong> theFoothill Conference. Michaelyn Scott hit for 20 po<strong>in</strong>ts and Daviyon Draper added 18.Sun., Feb. 24<strong>Marauder</strong> Women's Basketball, which f<strong>in</strong>ished fourth place <strong>in</strong> the Foothill Conference,placed Yvette Bennett, AVC's lead<strong>in</strong>g scorer <strong>in</strong> conference playand Mikeisha Moore, who was AVC's top scorer and rebounderon the First Team All-Foothill Conference squad. For Bennett, itis her second time on the team, hav<strong>in</strong>g been so honored <strong>in</strong> 2010-11.BennettMoore<strong>Marauder</strong> Men's Basketball, which f<strong>in</strong>ished second <strong>in</strong> the Foothill Conference, placelead<strong>in</strong>g scorer Mike Scott and lead<strong>in</strong>g rebounder Dwan Caldwellon the First Team All-Foothill Conference squad.Wed., Feb. 27Fri., Mar. 1Sat., Mar. 2<strong>Marauder</strong> Men's Basketball began a surge with two m<strong>in</strong>utesleft <strong>in</strong> the first half and didn't stop until they were up by 19 andcomfortably ran away with their first round playoff game aga<strong>in</strong>stScottCaldwellCerritos, 69-54. Vadal Faniel and Dwan Caldwell both scored 16 po<strong>in</strong>ts and 10 and n<strong>in</strong>erebounds respectively, but it was Daviyon Draper's three three po<strong>in</strong>ters that pushed thetied game from a tie to seven at the half to 10 just <strong>in</strong>to the second half.For <strong>Marauder</strong> head coach John Taylor it marked the 11th straight time his <strong>Marauder</strong> team(eight of them were as the women's coach) has won 20 game <strong>in</strong> a season. It also extendsAVC's home playoff w<strong>in</strong> streak to 10 games.<strong>Marauder</strong> Fastpitch/Softball went scoreless <strong>in</strong>to the n<strong>in</strong>th <strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g, then gave up six runsand lost to Long Beach City 6-0. Haley Schulman struck out 10 Vik<strong>in</strong>gs but also gave up10 walks and took the loss.<strong>Marauder</strong> Men's Basketball turned the ball over 14 times <strong>in</strong> the second half, and coupledwith a 63 percent shoot<strong>in</strong>g half by No. 3 Mt. San Antonio, couldn't keep up over the lastsix m<strong>in</strong>utes and were bounced from playoffs, 80-68. Lucciano Gamiz led the <strong>Marauder</strong>s<strong>in</strong> scor<strong>in</strong>g with 16. Dwan Caldwell had a career high five blocks for a <strong>Marauder</strong> teamthat had n<strong>in</strong>e overall <strong>in</strong> the game.AVC fought back and led with seven m<strong>in</strong>utes left, but then Mt. SAC, which was 59percent from the field on the night, went on a seven for eight shoot<strong>in</strong>g run, while AVCwas oh for four, three of those threes and with three m<strong>in</strong>utes left, the game was all butover.
