Sat., Jan. 12Marauder Women's Basketball saw a huge opportunity. Chaffey was coming off a hugeupset of San Bernardino, and the Marauders knew the Panthers night well be flat. Well,Chaffey wasn't exactly flat, but AVC gave them as difficult game as on Wednesday,ultimately losing their first Foothill Conference contest 72-67. Chaffey jumped out toa 10 point lead with seven minutes left in the first half, but by the half, AVC was downby just two. And with 2:32 left, the Marauders tied the game when Tyreshay Flores wasfouled on a lay-up, giving her 18 points. She also led AVC with 10 rebounds. But it wasthe last points the Marauders would get . Yvette Bennett led AVC with 20 points.No. 11 in state Marauder Men's Basketball came into their home Foothill Conferencegame against No. 12 Chaffey, which AVC beat in the last seconds of the game just threeweeks ago in the championship game of the Canyons Tournament, knowing that thiswill set the stage for rest of the conference season. After all, the Marauders 85-70 wingives AVC sole possession of first in conference and they are the only undefeated teamamongst the four team that are ranked in the top 20 in the state. What was the differencein this one? Shooting, Pure and simple. The Marauders shot 56 percent from behind thearc, led by Julius Bilbrew's five out of six. The Panthers, on the other hand was just 20percent, and was at one point one for 16 in the second half. AVC was 62 percent from thefield, compared to the 36 percent for the Panthers - a full nine points below their average.Wed., Jan. 23Mikeisha Moore hit for 14 points and had five rebounds but it wasn't nearly enoughagainst the No. 5 team in the state and Marauder Women's Basketball lost 69-44.No. 4 in state Marauder Men's Basketball had all the chances to break a bad streak andkeep a good one going. But they couldn't get any of the chances to drop as they took afive point lead at the 11:08 mark in the second and then went three for 14 the rest of theway (and 23 percent from the field in the second half), losing to San Bernardino Valley57-53. In the bottom of the fifth, AVC closed the gap to 6-3,then in the sixth thanks to walks and wild pitches by the Hornet pitchers, they servedup the biggest mistake of the game, letting Amanda Sanchez drive a shot over the rightcenter field fence scoring the three runs that gave the Marauders their first lead and thewin.Marauder Baseball opener became a 2-park, 23-hour odyssey after their game againstPasadena was halted due to darkness in Pasadena the day before with the game tied at 3-3in the 10th inning. The game then resumed Saturday with the Marauders winning 4-3,in 11 innings. Reserve first baseman Dakoda Jolliffe, who didn't enter the game until the10th inning, delivered the winning RBI single to right field in the top of the 11th. In theregularly scheduled game the Marauder lost 10-6 victory.
