APPENDIX-IPLAN OF EXAMINATION1. The combined competitive examinationcomprises following successive stages:(i) State Service Preliminary Examinationfor selection of candidates for Main Examination,and(ii) State Services Main Examinationand Inter<strong>view</strong> for selection of candidates forthe various categories of services and post.2. (a) Preliminary examination will consis<strong>to</strong>f one paper of objective type (multiple choicequestions of General Studies & mental ability,and carry a maximum of 300 marks.(b) This Examination is meant <strong>to</strong> serveas a screening test only and the marks obtained inthe Preliminary Examination by the Candidateswho are declared qualified for admission <strong>to</strong> theMain Examination will not be counted for determiningtheir final order of merit.(c) The question paper of PreliminaryExam will be of the objective type (multiple choicequestion). Each question will have four probableanswers grouped under A,B,C and D of whichonly one will be the correct/nearly correct answer.The candidate is required <strong>to</strong> record in theanswer book, only A,B,C or D as may be adjudgedby him <strong>to</strong> be the correct/nearly correctanswer.(d) Paper will carry 150 questionseach carrying 2 marks and will be of 2 ½ hrs.duration.(e) The details of the syllabi for preliminaryis indicated in Appendix-II(f)& English.Question paper will be in Hindi(g) Candidates are required <strong>to</strong> obtainat least 33% marks in each paper of the PreliminaryExamination. In the case of candidatesbelonging <strong>to</strong> Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe /OBC the qualifying marks would be only 23%.3. The number of candidates <strong>to</strong> be admitted<strong>to</strong> the Main Examination will be about fifteen timesthe <strong>to</strong>tal number of vacancies <strong>to</strong> be filled in thevarious categories of Service and posts as indicatedin the <strong>advertisement</strong>. Only those candidateswho are declared by the Commission <strong>to</strong> havequalified in preliminary examination under a particularresult will be eligible for admission <strong>to</strong> theMain Examination.(2)4. In the case of candidates belonging<strong>to</strong> Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe / OBC thequalifying marks would be only 23% .5. The number of candidates <strong>to</strong> be calledfor the Inter<strong>view</strong> test will be about threetimes the <strong>to</strong>tal number of vacancies, asindicated in the <strong>advertisement</strong>. Only thosecandidates who are declared by the Commission<strong>to</strong> have qualified in Main examinationwill be eligible for Inter<strong>view</strong>.6.
