My mother's line isextreamly "white" (pale color), blond and often green or blue eyes. Many of my relatives are even"red haired with frekels" often called "Irish". We had never heard anything from an old "indianancestor". Always had been told about French, Italian and Spanish ancestors. I confes, with all myrespect to anyone, that if I got that "C" , I got it, but never expected. I was told in school that"natives or indians (as we call them here)" were almost exterminated by Spaniards, and very few"indian" blood could be found in this Island, in contrast to any other latinamerican country. Tha'swhy the slaves were brought here. I knew some people who proudly say they had an "indianancestor - Taino". I knew my great-grandmother Gregoria Anglerau Gutierrez. She was born inPR around 1885. She was the daughter of Isaias Monserrate Gutierrez. As far as family storiestell, Isaias was the daughter of a spanish lady, and had also a sister. Isaias's mother separatedfrom her husband, because he liked "slave women". Isaias mother kept Isaias and her husbandthe other girl, who she never saw again. Today, the population here is almost "mixed" (white andblack). My family belongs to a small portion of the population - who considerd pure "European -White" descendants... a group that is extreamly predjudised with "coloured" people as theyreferred to "mulatos", but . Is not so "wrong" to mention to have an old "indian ancestor". Thiswhy I do not understand why we never knew about having that heritage.... despite you can't tell orfind any physical resemblance. I write to the Genographic Project for any explanation for that"C" and the posibility of inherited in any other way. I'm still waiting for a reply. But as far as Iknow that I only had Spanish, French, Italian and even English" ancestors. I'm also anenthusiastic of the Genealogy, so after many years studying all my lines with my father, I neverfound anything about this "indian" ancestor.
