Before that I amunsure of origins. My mother's maiden name is Burnside, her mothers name was Georgia AnneBurnside, her mother was Margaret Sanders, my mothers father was Albert Burnside. My fatherwas Josephus Keeble, his father was Capus Keeble, my fathers mother was Gertrude Jackson. Interms of racial origins it has been a unclear journey. At first we thought we had native americanadmixture only to find after the dna sampling there is none. The results show that I am 39% Indo-European and 61% African. Unfortunately the tests do not break down portions any smaller thanthe ones I've quoted. So what does Indo-European mean? It could mean anything from Irish toGreek. I suppose this is the weak link in dna testing, one really never gets the entire story. Most ifnot all info is based upon what was passed down orally from your family. If that wasn't accuratethan you really have only the vague description provided from the testing. It has had it'sinteresting points in terms of others replies to my posting. Some have said that my mtdna isEthiopian, others that I have at least one mutation that is ancient Roman. When I use theconcordance I come up with everything from Turkish to Algerian. At any rate, the African is aknown, but what tribe? What area of the continent? So, some questions will remain unanswereddespite this new and exciting technology.Email address (To use delete [AT] and add @ sign in that position): barbara.katayama[AT]sbcglobal.netGuest: Phyllis HaynenGuest's Website: http://www.phyllis.wsDate-Time: Monday, December 08, 2003 at 22:32:51 (CST)Testing Company Used: FamilyTreeDNAHVR1 MtDNA Results: 16390A, 16519CMtDNA Haplogroup per HVR1 Results: HHVR2 MtDNA Test Results: 152C, 263G, 309.1C, 315.1CDate MtDNA Test Was Ordered: October 2003Comments: Great-Grandmother, Mattie Belle (Peters) Lyon, born March 17, 1874 in Michigan, died April 21, 1938 in Aberdeen, Washington. All havepresumed recent ancestry in the British Isles. Although the ancestral 16343G mutation arose inthe middle east about 10,000 BC, members of haplogroup U3 have probably been in NW Europesince the neolithic. They traveled by sea through the Mediterranean to North Portugal and on tothe British Isles and Scandanavia. They might have brought wheat and barley cultivation to NWEurope. About 2% of the people in Norway and Scotland are in group U3 today. She was brought up by other family members in the Newbridge area ofMonmouthshire. I do know her father was a John Hughes a coal miner, but in any census of theUK Sarah appears on she only states born USA. My original reason for going down the DNA linewas trying to prove familial connections with those with my surname Roderick which in Wales hasderived from a very old Welsh name Rhydderch. So far most of the Welsh Rodericks tested seemto have some links that is except for me, I turn out to be of Haplogroup G which is prettyuncommon in the UK and Wales. Then to find that on the mtDNA results that I am of HaplogroupI is even more interesting. They were the first generation of Ulster Scots immigrants, whosettled in Worcester, MA around 1718. They were a tight-knit group of Covenanter Presbyterians, who tended to marry within the group. The Kelsos, as a clue, came from the Strathclyde region ofScotland, near the Firth of Clyde and River Clyde. The earliest inhabitants of Strathclyde wereprobably the Britons. I don't have solid evidence, but my hypothesis is that the haplogroup Imaternal ancestors of this line came very early to Britain, when it was first settled, and thus madeup a part of the Britons, who were there before many others came. They spoke a languageancestral to Welsh. So far, the only very near match I have been in touch with is a Welsh man, sothis seems like a good sign. I had no particular expectations, but I didn't want to be in H, and washoping for an ancient and uncommon haplogroup, and that was what I found in haplogroup I. Theonly one I would have liked better would have been U. I'm the one running the Haplogroup IHome Page, and hope to hear from all members of this haplogroup, so your results can becompared with the others who have already participated. They were the Cro-Magnons,who produced the cave art in Southern France, of whom the Basques are probably a survivingremnant. They were hunters, not farmers, and developed a new type of stone tool. The Ursula clanspread throughout Europe, sharing it (according to modern thinking) with the Neanderthals forabout 20,000 years. During the ice age they retreated to Spain, where they combined with theValda clan. Other European groups retreated to the Balkins and the Ukraine during the ice age. When the glaciers melted, about 16,000 years ago, Europeans from all three areas spread outagain throughEurope. We have many circumstantial reasons tobelieve deeper Norman/Scandinavian ancestry, but no current proof. My Y-DNA haplogroup is"I" - I have 4 12-marker matches with surname, Sutton & a 5th match with "Lisle" - we all havesubstantial paper trails to Norman/Scandinavian ancestry. To date, I have no exact 25 markermatches (FTDNA). My paper trail "switches back & forth" to Scandinavian & Frankish ancestryin the 8th Century (if I can believe the historical data in that era). My mother's paper trail leads toNormandy, via surnames Cherry (de Cheri) & Byrom - Cherrys were Hugenots who fled toIreland in the 16th Century. I"m waiting for DNAprint results to arrive. I'm currently searchingfor Eliza Jane Noe's ancestry.Email address (To use delete [AT] and add @ sign in that position): mikenhumphrey[AT]yahoo.comGuest: Ann TurnerDate-Time: Tuesday, August 05, 2003 at 10:07:38 (CDT)Testing Company Used: Oxford AncestorsHVR1 MtDNA Results: 16293GMtDNA Haplogroup per HVR1 Results: HHVR2 MtDNA Test Results: Not TestedDate MtDNA Test Was Ordered: October 2000Comments: Of the 2247 records for haplogroup H in the Oxford Ancestors database, only 9 havethis specific mutation.Email address (To use delete [AT] and add @ sign in that position): DNACousins[AT]aol.comGuest: B.J.
