STADIUM DEVELOPMENT NEWSNEW SINGLE TIER STAND FOR SPURS STADIUMTottenham Hotspur Football Club recently confirmed that theNorthumberland Development Project planning applicationhas been submitted to the London Borough of Haringey.Daniel Levy, Chairman ofTottenham Hotspur FootballClub, said: “The submission ofthe application is a hugely important step forthe Club.“This is a multi-million pound investmentin the area which brings with it housing, retail,a hotel, a supermarket, expanded communityservices and jobs and an exceptional publicsquare. We have designed what will be avibrant area 365 days a year and not a stadiumwith dead space surrounding it.“Our desire from the outset has been to createa scheme of major benefit for local people and todeliver the most fan-friendly stadium in Europe.“The inclusion of a new single tier standcombined with a fantastic stadium designdemonstrates our absolute commitment tocreate the most atmospheric stadium for oursupporters.“Every fan will have an exceptional view ofthe action and will find themselves closer to thepitch than at any other comparable stadium.“We have also embraced environmentalsustainability as part of the plans, delivering a40% reduction in carbon emissions againstcurrent building regulations which will make itone of the best performing of its kind in the UK.“Tottenham Hotspur is proud of its roots inHaringey and the NorthumberlandDevelopment Project will act as a powerfulcatalyst for the uplift of the wider area. Wehave had an exceptionally positive response toour consultation activities and I am personallydelighted to have reached this stage.”Stadium Architect David Keirle of KSS, said:“Throughout the whole design process wehave continued to refine the designs tomaximise stadium atmosphere, including areduction in the space allocated to corporateareas in order to deliver the new single tierstand. “The acoustics will be excellent, withthe bowl design helping to reflect sound backonto the pitch whilst the stadium architectureitself responds to the Spurs identity, usingflowing lines and a gracefully undulating roofto create a visually stunning building.“It will be an exceptional place to watchfootball and a fantastic addition to this part ofthe High Road.”Ledley King, Club Captain, said: “Spurs hasbeen my life - the current matchday atmosphereis unrivalled, it’s electric , players can almostreach out and touch it. Thesubmission of the application is good news forTottenham.”The existing 36,000 capacity stadium hasremained unchanged for over a decade and theClub is currently in the position of having over70,000 registered club members and a waitinglist for season tickets of more than 23,000 people.The submission follows extensive preapplicationcommunity consultation carried outby the Club which saw 2,500 people passthrough the doors of two separate exhibitionsand overwhelmingly positive feedback received.The Northumberland Development Projectwill represent an investment of hundreds ofmillions of pounds into North Tottenham,creating new jobs, bringing more spend intothe local community and delivering newpublic open space including a world class newpublic square.Haringey Council will now undertake itsstatutory consultation process beforedetermining the application.
