HE day of resurrection!
Earth, tell it out abroad;
Our Christ hath brought us over
With hymns of victory.
3. Now let the heavens be joyful,
Let earth her song begin,
The round world keep high triumph,
Their notes together blend,
For Christ the Lord is risen,
Our joy that hath no end.
Praise eternal as his love, Alleluia!
Praise him, all ye heavenly host, Alleluia!
Of resurrection light;
And, listening to his accents,
May hear so calm and plain
His own “All hail!” and, hearing,
May raise the victor strain.
PSALM 118:14-17, 22-24 Confitemini Domino Anglican Chant (Gray, S. Wesley)
T
Sung by the Choir. The People remain seated.
HE Lord is my strength, and my song;* and is become my salvation.
15 The voice of joy and health is in the dwellings of the righteous;* the right hand of the Lord bringeth
mighty things to pass.
16 The right hand of the Lord hath the pre-eminence;* the right hand of the Lord bringeth
mighty things to pass.
17 I shall not die, but live,* and declare the works of the Lord.
22 The same stone which the builders refused,* is become the head-stone in the corner.
23 This is the Lord’s doing,* and it is marvellous in our eyes.
24 This is the day which the Lord hath made;* we will rejoice and be glad in it.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,* and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,* world without end. Amen.
THE EPISTLE Colossians 3:1-4
The Subdeacon concludes The Word of the Lord.
People Thanks be to God.
AT THE GRADUAL, Hymn GAUDEAMUS PARITER
(arranged by John Scott)
C
OME, ye faithful, raise the strain
Of triumphant gladness;
God hath brought his Israel
Into joy from sadness;
Loosed from Pharaoh’s bitter yoke
Jacob’s sons and daughters;
Led them with unmoistened foot
Through the Red Sea waters.
2. ‘Tis the spring of souls to-day;
Christ hath burst his prison,
And from three days’ sleep in death
As a sun hath risen;
All the winter of our sins,
Long and dark, is flying
From his light, to whom we give
Laud and praise undying.
3
3. Now the queen of seasons, bright
With the day of splendor,
With the royal feast of feasts,
Comes its joy to render;
Comes to glad Jerusalem,
Who with true affection
Welcomes in unwearied strains
Jesus’ resurrection.
4. Neither might the gates of death,
Nor the tomb’s dark portal,
Nor the watchers, nor the seal
Hold thee as a mortal:
But to-day amidst thine own
Thou didst stand, bestowing
That thy peace which evermore
Passeth human knowing.
SERMON The Rector
THE NICENE CREED Said by all, standing.
I
BELIEVE in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And of all things visible and
invisible: And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God; Begotten of his Father before all
worlds, God of God, Light of Light, Very God of very God; Begotten, not made; Being of one substance with
the Father; By whom all things were made: Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven,
And was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary, And was made man: And was crucified also for us
under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried: And the third day he rose again according to the
Scriptures: And ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of the Father: And he shall come again,
with glory, to judge both the quick and the dead; Whose kingdom shall have no end.
And I believe in the Holy Ghost, The Lord, and Giver of Life, Who proceedeth from the Father and the
Son; Who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; Who spake by the Prophets: And
I believe one holy Catholic and Apostolic Church: I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins:
And I look for the Resurrection of the dead: And the life of the world to come. Amen.
THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
The people kneel. At the conclusion of each petition the People say
Lord, have mercy.
THE INVITATION TO CONFESSION
THE GENERAL CONFESSION Said by all, kneeling.
A
lmighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, maker of all things, judge of all men: We acknowledge
and bewail our manifold sins and wickedness, which we, from time to time, most grievously have
committed, by thought, word, and deed, against thy divine Majesty, provoking most justly thy wrath and
indignation against us. We do earnestly repent, and are heartily sorry for these our misdoings; the
remembrance of them is grievous unto us; the burden of them is intolerable. Have mercy upon us, have mercy
upon us, most merciful Father; for thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, forgive us all that is past; and grant
that we may ever hereafter serve and please thee in newness of life, to the honor and glory of thy Name;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Celebrant Let us pray.
All Almighty and everliving God, we most heartily thank thee for that thou dost
feed us, in these holy mysteries, with the spiritual food of the most precious
Body and Blood of thy Son our Savior Jesus Christ; and dost assure us thereby
of thy favor and goodness towards us; and that we are very members incorporate
in the mystical body of thy Son, the blessed company of all faithful people; and
are also heirs, through hope, of thy everlasting kingdom. And we humbly
beseech thee, O heavenly Father, so to assist us with thy grace, that we may
continue in that holy fellowship, and do all such good works as thou hast
prepared for us to walk in; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with thee
W
Sung by the Choir. Please be seated.
HEN Israel came out of Egypt,* and the house of Jacob from among the strange people,
2 Judah was his sanctuary,* and Israel his dominion.
3 The sea saw that, and fled;* Jordan was driven back.
4 The mountains skipped like rams,* and the little hills like young sheep.
5 What aileth thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest?* and thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back?
6 Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams?* and ye little hills, like young sheep?
7 Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord:* at the presence of the God of Jacob;
8 Who turned the hard rock into a standing water,* and the flint-stone into a springing well.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,* and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,* world without end. Amen.
