The fundraising show’s proceeds will support theRiding School projects.Diego Virata ‘s two photos Diego VirataAberdeen and Horse with no Name); NinaHerrera-Huang (Karen); Karen Fabie-Concepcion (Pointillism); Karen Pamintuan(untitled pen and ink works delicate blackand white horse); and Lucy Jackson-Fernandez (Krishna, Apassionata);and Connie Quirino (<strong>Polo</strong> Shot).“Jumpy”Grace BaghdadiNadya MojicaGretl Baghdadi24SPORTS AND ATHLETICSThe show opened on Sunday, 3 Aprilduring the AHS, at the Willow Root lobby.Cocktails were served after the awarding ofthe Jumping competition.The young, aspiring artists (12 and below)had their own little event – an on-the-spotpainting contest with prizes for the topthree winners Grace Baghdadi, NadyaMojica and Gretl Baghdadi.Guest artists were MPC past presidentAtty. Antonio M. Meer - artist, author, bonvivant with his elegant oil painting of arider on a white horse; and Maria Victoria(Mav) Rufino, visual artist-writer, curatorand producer (“Duet,” from her privatecollection of her early Chinese painting ofhorses, ink on rice paper, 1979).Here is a list of the equestrian participantsand some of their stunning and diverseartworks of horses in different styles andmoods: Ina Calalang-Ayala (Equus); MiaMontinola Virata (Aberdeen); Dindin Co-Lagdameo (Bend, Horse Power and Donefor the Day). Dindin also designed theAHS poster.It was an exciting process for the RidingSchool panel -- gathering the artists,selecting the artworks and selecting thebest for the show. Mounting the exhibitwas a challenge because of time andspace constraints on Sunday morning.But it turned out to be a wonderfuland fulfilling experience.The collectors and friends of the artistssnapped up the most colorful andinteresting pieces even before the formalopening. The exhibit ran for two weeks atthe Centennial Lobby.Congratulations to the Riding SchoolCommittee for spearheading EQUUS andthe art contest. It was a tribute to the noblehorse in art by riders. The famous Britishartist Constable (who was famous for hisexquisite paintings of horses) would havebeen so proud! We hope to make thisexhibit an annual event during the AnnualHorse Show.
