Chapter 15: Managing Virtualized <strong>License</strong> Servers for File-Based LicensingInstalling lmbind on the HypervisorInstalling lmbind on the HypervisorThe specific procedure for installing the binding agent depends on your choice of platforms.Installing lmbind for VMware ESX (with Linux ConsoleOS)As a 32-bit Linux application, lmbind runs on the console OS of VMware ESX. The binding agent only supportsIPv4 connections.Note • For VMware ESXi, lmbind can run only on a physical machine connected to the VMware ESXi hypervisor.Task:To install lmbind for Linux1. Select a VMware ESX host, and download lmbind to this machine.2. Select a port number for the Agent to listen to. The default port number range is from 27010 through 27019, ifno port is specified while starting lmbind. (Any port is permitted as long as incoming and outgoingcommunication is enabled for that port.)3. To start lmbind, enter lmbind --port , where is the TCP port number you selected in Step 2.(See lmbind Command Line Options for more information.). Only a single instance of lmbind can run on agiven host.Installing lmbind for Microsoft Hyper-VAs a 64-bit Windows application, lmbind runs on Windows Console OS of Microsoft Hyper-V and supports onlyIPv4 connections.The Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) service is required for virtualization support of Hyper-V.Task:To install lmbind using the Windows command line1.
