To put the results in perspective:• 100 E.coli/100 mL is the level at which public beaches are posted unsafe for swimming;• Kawartha Lake Stewards Association believes the safe swimming level for our lakes should be more stringent than this,and have set the acceptable level at 50 E.coli/100 mL. These sites have had recurringhigh counts over the years, probably due to being near the mouths of creeks flowingfrom rich wildlife areas. Counts fall quickly in sites downstream the mouth of theinflow. Local landowners have been informed of this issue.75
