Gorski crafted a framework ofdiscussion questions and exercises that engaged participants’ thoughts, emotions,convictions, and vision toward their common purpose.The first goal of the Symposium Series was to explore and articulate the extentof problems caused by the use of alcohol and other drugs among working addictionprofessionals, with a special focus on:◆◆◆The relapse of previously recovering professionals to alcohol and other drug useThe development of alcohol and other drug problems among addiction professionalswho have not had a history of substance use problemsBoundaries between appropriate and inappropriate use of medically prescribedmood-altering medications such as antidepressants, anti-anxietyagents, pain killers, and sleeping medications by addiction professionals workingin the fieldThe ultimate goals of this series were to:◆◆◆Propose solutions to these challengesBegin the process of experimenting with these and other potential solutionsInspire further dialogue on the subject within the fieldThis process has taken place within the context of a national movement towardRecovery-Oriented Systems of Care, supported by the efforts of the SubstanceAbuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
