Ease of OperationEase of operation was paramount in the design of the new TH220B. The single joystick,with its intuitive, modulated, hydraulic functions and the new Cat electronic machineinformation display are designed to maximize operator efficiency.Joystick Control. The joystick allowsthree simultaneous boom functions andincorporates a unique slider switch.Two joystick control patterns are availableto meet application requirements.The joystick also operates the auxiliaryhydraulic function and allows the optionof a second auxiliary service for the useof work tools that require more thanone hydraulic service.Hydraulic System. The Cat ElectroHydraulic system allows all three boomfunctions to be operated simultaneouslyand proportionally. This enables preciseplacing of loads in challenging applications.Auxiliary hydraulic functions are availableon the joystick to allow operators to utilizemore complex work tools.A continuous flow auxiliary hydraulicsupply is also available for operating toolssuch as pickup brooms.Integrated System. Cat’s exclusiveintegrated management systemallows the engine, transmissionand hydraulic systems to operatewith maximum efficiency, controland productivity.Flow Sharing. Three simultaneoushydraulic functions are achievedusing a flow sharing hydraulic valve.A load sensing variable displacementpump allows full hydraulic powereven at low revs.5

PerformanceThe TH220B delivers high performance to meet your specific job site needs.Lift Height. The TH220B can effectively andquickly place bricks, roofing materials and trussesto a maximum height of 6100 mm.Reach. Job site obstacles present challengesdemanding a machine to place loads at greaterdistances – the TH220B delivers.Maneuverability. The TH220B offers excellentmaneuverability, due to its tight turning circle andits three different steering modes.The TH220B has 50 degree axle turning circle andno rear tail swing, allowing it to work productivelyand safely in confined areas.Steering Modes. The TH220B offers three steeringmodes (two wheel, crab and circle steer) to allowan operator to easily position the machine.Steering modes are selected by a single 3-positionrocker switch.6

PowertrainCaterpillar engines, axles and transmissions give you the quality powertrain that you expect.High Torque Rise Engine.The Cat 3054E Electronic engine isfully compliant with the latest roundof worldwide emissions regulations.While continuing to deliver maximumperformance, they also featureimproved timing, reduced smokeand exceptional service improvements.For improved sound characteristics,a venturi tailpipe has been packagedinside the engine enclosure.Electronic engines deliver:■ Improved low idle performance■ Product Link capabilities■ Improved fuel consumption■ Increased diagnostic andsecurity capabilityCooling System. The cooling systemhas been designed to work in the mostchallenging conditions.Two Engine Options. The 3054E enginewill be offered in two configurationsfor the TH220B, a 74.5 kW (99 hp)option or a 92 kW (123 hp) option.These options will be available throughthe Merchandising Arrangementstructure.Transmission. The TH220B transmissionoption depends upon whichengine is specified. The 92 kW (123 hp)engine option is combined with a fiveforward/three speed reverse powersynchrotransmission. The 74.5 kW(99 hp) engine is combined with a fourforward/three speed reverse powersynchrotransmission. Engine and transmissionoptions are selected throughthe MA structure.Axles. The TH220B is fitted withCaterpillar planetary reduction axles,with four wheel braking.For improved machine performance indifficult conditions, a differential lockis available (front axle).7
