Several chapter members won individual awards. Carolyn Cuestas and Tina O’Toolewon the distinguished chapter officer awards, and Misty Heil won the distinguished memberaward.LCCC’s Phi Theta Kappa received the highest star ranking at an international level, making it afive-star chapter for five years in a row.Maggie Swanger was recognized as one of 30 advisers, out of 1,200 chapters, to receive theParagon Award for new advisers.Bob Tegge from LCCC was elected as the vice president of the Wyoming region for Phi ThetaKappa.The 2010–2011 Phi Theta Kappa officer team was Michael O’Toole, Tina O’Toole, CarolynCuestas, Carissa Lane, Bob Tegge, Barb Soden, Sarah Farrell, Melissa Bischoping, Trista Wood andTracy McEwen.College’s ‘Race for the Cure’ needs team membersThe Wyoming Race for the Cure will take place on Aug. 13, and the Laramie County CommunityCollege team is currently comprised of alumni, employees, children and breast cancer survivors.Those who sign up now will receive two T-shirts. In 1998,she became the interim dean ofthe social sciences division. Urbantook the permanent position in2000. She was then interim deanof health, science and agriculturefrom July 2003–June 2004 and interimdean of arts and humanitiesbriefly in 2006.Urban also worked from1974–1981 at Yavapai CommunityCollege.Urban has a law degree fromGeorge Washington University, aMaster of Arts degree in Americanstudies from the University ofMaryland and a Bachelor of ArtsKathleen Urbandegree in American studies fromthe University of Wyoming.“Kathleen brings a diverse backgroundand set of experiences tothis position that I know will benefitnot only the division but alsothe college,” LCCC’s vice presidentof instruction, Dr. Marlene Tignor,said in an email. “Members of theA&H Division and I are delightedthat she will continue to provideguidance and leadership.”College employeesto take leave, resignAs summer breakapproaches and thesemester comes to aclose, some facultymembers and an administratorwill havean extended break asthey will not return forthe fall semester.Kerry Bailey, amathematics instructorat Laramie CountyCommunity College,will retire after 27years of employment.(See story in Aprilissue.)Kelli Griffith, anagriculture instructor,has also resignedLarry Struempf, acomputer informationinstructor atthe Albany CountyCampus, will go ona sabbatical for thecoming fall semester.However, he willbe back for the 2012spring semester.Crystal Stratton, acommunications instructor,is also goingon sabbatical afterthis semester and willnot return for the entireacademic year.Dr. Lisa Stich, deanof health sciencesand wellness since2004, has resignedand will begin a newposition at West ShoreCommunity Collegein Scottville, Mich.Stich’s new position isthe vice president ofacademics and studentservices and shewill begin working atWest Shore on July 1.“Both me and myhusband are fromWisconsin, so it willbe nice to be close tofamily,” Stich said. Shesaid she was excitedto go to another smallcollege because “theyhave a sense of familyand community.”Stich said the positionwas a great opportunityto advancein her career at this1,600-enrollmentcollege.
