THENATIONALTRUSTThere had always been many grievances among organizations in the registration process withlong pendency for even longer period. This was effectively streamlined during the year bringingdown the pendency level to almost nil. So far, we have 750 registered organisations out ofwhich 210 were registered during the year 2007-08. While it is our endeavour to furtherstreamline registration process, it is also expected that desirous organisations apply giving fulldetails including copies of certificate of registration under Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995and Societies Registration Act.Appointment of legal guardians is most significant provision of the National Trust Act and theLocal Level Committee has the central role in this regard. In order to address these issues, LLCin all the districts were constituted during the year and legal guardianship certificate was redesignedand standardized so as to clarify several prevailing doubts in the minds of different stakeholders.To orient the members of LLCs, a two tier training programme was started. In the first stage,resource persons for each of the six zones, in which the country was divided, were identifiedand trained under Zonal Technical Resource Trainers (ZTRT) programme. In the second stage,through ZTRT, training was given to LLC members under the Disability Equity TrainingProgramme covering 15 districts at a time. These programmes have yielded mixed resultsfrom different states and therefore there is a need to strengthen this process to make it moreeffective.In the world of Information Technology & Information Technology Enabled Services, it wasconceived and work initiated to establish an Information -cum- Facilitation Centre where allthe information pertaining to the four developmental disabilities will be readily available andassisted devices will be on display for hands on experience. Besides this, work on informationkiosk at different hospitals were also carried out and such kiosks were installed in 5 hospitals inDelhi.We now hope that in coming years we will be able to further expand our activities with moreand more innovative and self-sustainable schemes in our endeavour to reach out to more andmore persons with disability even in the remotest corner of the country.
