Academic Policies & ProceduresAll students at the <strong>College</strong> are responsible for adhering to all academicpolicies as presented in this Catalog, the <strong>Curry</strong> <strong>College</strong> Catalog, CESchedule Guide, Graduate Program brochures and handouts and in theStudent Handbook which can be found on the web site (www.curry.edu).While representatives of the <strong>College</strong>, including academic advisors, are availableto assist students in planning to meet requirements for graduation andinterpreting and implementing academic and student life policies, compliancewith policies is ultimately the responsibility of each student.A school official has a legitimate educational interest if the officialneeds to review an education record in order to fulfill his or her professionalresponsibility.4. The right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Educationconcerning alleged failures by the <strong>College</strong> to comply with therequirements of FERPA. The name and address of the office thatadministers FERPA is:The Office of Enrollment Managementand the RegistrarThe Office of Enrollment Management and the Registrar maintainsstudent academic records and administers academic policies. The officeprovides assistance, information, and support regarding students’ academicstanding, courses, schedules, registration, transcripts, grades, academicrecords, exchange programs, and enrollment certification.Student Academic Information and RecordsStudent academic information is maintained by the Office of EnrollmentManagement and the Registrar, including such records as the student’sapplication for ad mission, academic transcript, and other informationrelative to the student’s academic career at the <strong>College</strong>. The FamilyEducational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords students certain rightswith respect to their education records. They are:1. The right to inspect and review their education records within 45days of the day the <strong>College</strong> receives a request for access.Students should submit written requests to the Registrar which identifythe record(s) they wish to inspect. The Registrar will makearrangements for access and notify the student of the time and placewhere records may be inspected. If the records requested are notmaintained by the Registrar, the Registrar will advise the student ofthe correct official to whom the request should be addressed.2. The right to request the amendment of their education records thatthey believe may be inaccurate or misleading.Students may ask <strong>Curry</strong> <strong>College</strong> to amend a record that they believeis inaccurate or misleading. They should write the <strong>College</strong> official responsiblefor the record, clearly identify the part of the record theywant changed, and specify why it is inaccurate or misleading.If <strong>Curry</strong> <strong>College</strong> decides not to amend the record as requested bythe student, the <strong>College</strong> will notify the student of the decision andadvise the student of his or her right to a hearing regarding the requestfor amendment. Additional information regarding the hearingprocedures will be provided to the student when notified of theright to a hearing.3. The right to consent to disclosures of personally identifiable informationcontained in the student’s records, except to the extent thatFERPA authorizes disclosure without consent.One exception which permits disclosure without consent is disclosureto school officials with legitimate educational interests. A schoolofficial is a person em ployed by <strong>Curry</strong> <strong>College</strong> in an administrative,supervisory, academic, research, or support staff position (includinglaw enforcement personnel and health staff); a person or companywith whom <strong>Curry</strong> <strong>College</strong> has contracted (such as an attorney, auditor,or collection agent); a person serving on the Board of Trustees;or a student serving on an official committee, such as a disciplinaryor grievance committee, or assisting another school official in performinghis or her tasks.Family Policy Compliance OfficeU.S. Department of Education600 Independence Avenue, SWWashington, DC 20202-4605Directory InformationThe Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, as amended, providesthat the <strong>College</strong> may disclose Directory Information, that is, informationthat is generally not considered harmful to students nor an invasion oftheir privacy if disclosed, without the consent of students. Under provisionsof the Act, this information includes: name, address, enrollment status, dateof birth, birthplace, major, activities information, sports participation,height and weight of athletic team members, dates of attendance, degreesand awards received, and most recent educational institution attended. Studentswho wish the <strong>College</strong> to withhold Directory Information need to notifythe Registrar in writing within 14 calendar days after Registration day.Since requests for non-disclosure are in effect only during the semester ofthe written request, students must notify the Registrar each semester. Requestforms are available at the Office of Enrollment Management and theRegistrar.Age of MajorityUnder Massachusetts law, the age of majority is 18 and carries full adultrights and responsibilities. Accordingly, the <strong>College</strong> will communicate directlywith students in matters concerning their education records, such asgrades, academic credits, and academic standing. However, the <strong>College</strong> understandsthat there may be cases where one or both parents may wish toobtain information regarding the student. In accordance with The FamilyEducational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 as amended, <strong>Curry</strong> <strong>College</strong>will normally release such information only with the student’s written authorization.A copy of the form is mailed to the student’s home address priorto his or her first semester of enrollment. However, if requested, we mayrelease information without a signed release from the student to a parent ofa student who is a dependent as defined by the I.R.S. A copy of the incometax return is required if not already on file at the <strong>College</strong>.Student Right-to-Know ActIn accordance with federal regulations, specifically the Student Right-to-Know Act, information regarding graduation rates of undergraduatestudents is maintained and is available upon written request to: Office ofEnrollment Management and the Registrar, <strong>Curry</strong> <strong>College</strong>, 1071 Blue HillAvenue, Milton, MA 02186Academic TranscriptsRequests for student academic transcripts must be made in writing to theOffice of Enrollment Management and the Registrar or online via the NationalStudent Clearinghouse (NSC). No telephone requests will be honored.Except as allowed under the Family Educational Rights and PrivacyAct of 1974, student academic transcripts will be released only upon thewritten request of the student.1. Official transcripts bearing the <strong>College</strong> seal and the Registrar’s signatureare issued directly to the designee;2.
