Program WithdrawalA graduate degree student who seeks to withdraw from the <strong>College</strong>should obtain the official Withdrawal Form from the Officeof CE/Graduate Studies. A student must complete the officialWithdrawal Form and return it to the appropriate graduateprogram director. Nonattendance does not constitute an officialwithdrawal and students are responsible for all academicwork until officially withdrawn.Readmission Policy for Graduate StudentsTo apply for readmission into a graduate program, a studentshould contact the CE/Graduate Studies Office to initiate theprocess. Readmission to a graduate program is contingent uponapproval of the respective graduate director. Readmissiondecisions are based upon a number of factors including the student’sprior graduate history, outstanding coursework needed tocomplete the degree, program curricular changes, and good financialstanding with the <strong>College</strong>. Readmission to a graduatecohort program is also contingent upon space available.Administration of Leave of AbsenceOn an exceptional basis, a student may need to request a ProgramLeave of Absence with the intention of resuming theirstudies typically after one semester or less. A student may onlyapply and be granted a Program Leave of Absence for one semesterat a time. Additional semester program leave requestsmust be requested in writing and will be subject to an additionalContinuation Fee. For each semester that a student is granteda leave of absence, students will be charged a $95 ContinuationFee. The administrative process for graduate students who requesta program leave of absence is overseen by the Office ofContinuing and Graduate Studies.Students should access the Leave of Absence Request Form onlinefrom their <strong>Curry</strong> Portal account. The form details the policiesand procedures related to a Program Leave of Absence Requestand requires students to provide a brief explanation fortheir request. Online request forms should be returned to theGraduate Studies office via the respective graduate programemail address. Each Leave of Absence request will be reviewedpromptly by Graduate Studies staff and the Graduate ProgramDirector. Students will be notified about the status of their requestwithin one week.Administrative DismissalA student may be dismissed from the <strong>College</strong> for not abidingby administrative policies such as, but not limited to, the <strong>Curry</strong><strong>College</strong> sexual harassment policy, meeting financial obligationsto the <strong>College</strong>, failure to demonstrate responsible and safe behavior,or contributing to a hostile learning environment. Graduatestudents are expected to follow the <strong>Curry</strong> <strong>College</strong> Code ofConduct. A copy of a student’s dismissal notice will be placedin the permanent academic file.Appeal ProcessA student may appeal an academic standing decision or otheracademic policy decision by submitting an Academic Petitionform available from the Director of Graduate Enrollment. Appealpetitions are reviewed by the graduate program directorand the Dean of Graduate Studies. A student may receiveassistance with any aspect of the appeal process, including adviceon stating the basis for the petition by contacting the Directorof Graduate Enrollment.Final Grade AppealsA student has the right to dispute a final grade for a graduatecourse. The student is responsible for initiating the grade appealprocess at the beginning of the subsequent semester followingthe award of the disputed grade. First, the student must meetwith the professor to discuss the resolution of the grade. If thestudent is not satisfied with the outcome of this discussion, thestudent can present the dispute in writing to the appropriategraduate program director. Both the student and the professormay be present for the discussion with the graduate program director.If at this step in the process, the student or professor isnot satisfied with the outcome of the appeal process, either partymay initiate a meeting with the Dean of Graduate Studiesthrough a written request. Both the student and professor maybe present for the discussion with the Dean of Graduate Studies.A final grade appeal can be reviewed by the Graduate Councilto ensure that the process has been fair and fully followed.The decision of the Dean of Graduate Studies is final. A finalgrade appeal should be resolved by the end of the subsequentsemester following the initial grade award.Academic DismissalA student may be dismissed from the <strong>College</strong> if his or her academicrecord does not meet the standards for good academicstanding during the semester of probation. A student may alsobe subject to dismissal from the <strong>College</strong> for academic dishonestywhich includes plagiarism. Plagiarism is defined as takingthe work of another as if it were one’s own, including the use oftexts and Internet sources without proper citations. Academicintegrity is of highest importance in an institution of learningand is expected from all <strong>Curry</strong> <strong>College</strong> students.70 CURRY COLLEGE CE Course Catalog 2011 – 2012 Rev. 3/2012
