The Council met once every two months. It reviewed the <strong>reports</strong> of the two administrative committees and five <strong>operational</strong><br />

committees, and decided on all major policy decisions for the <strong>Association</strong>.<br />

The Council is supported by two Administrative Committees and five Operational Committees.<br />

admInISTraTIve commITTee’S reporTS<br />

general affaIrS commITTee<br />

The General Affairs Committee was headed by the Honorary<br />

Secretary, Mr. Patrick Phoon. All matters relating to the<br />

<strong>Association</strong>’s public relations, collaterals, social activities and<br />

the Secretariat’s administrative affairs came under his area of<br />

responsibility.<br />

• Membership<br />

As of 15 June 2011, the Membership of the SSA stood at<br />

401 members, of whom 241 are Ordinary Members, 160<br />

are Associate Members and 3 are Individual Members. The<br />

<strong>Association</strong> also has 2 Honorary Members, namely, Mr. Yeo<br />

Cheow Tong and Mr. Ong Kok Wah.<br />

The <strong>Association</strong> welcomed 41 new members into the<br />

<strong>Association</strong> since the last AGM. During the same period, 16<br />

members had resigned.<br />

• Young Executives Group Sub-Committee<br />

The Young Executives Group (YEG) continues to enjoy strong support<br />

from SSA member companies. As of 15 June 2011, more than 780 young<br />

shipping executives have joined the YEG. Established in 2005, the main<br />

role of the YEG is to encourage young shipping executives to develop a<br />

greater awareness of and participation in the <strong>Association</strong>’s activities with<br />

a view towards nurturing future leaders for the <strong>Association</strong>. Ms. Katie<br />

Men of Farglory Holdings Pte Ltd, Mr. Ng Ee Ping of Kontiki <strong>Shipping</strong><br />

Pte Ltd and Ms. Agnes Chua of Island Shipbrokers Pte Ltd were elected<br />

as Vice Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer respectively by their fellow<br />

members to lead the YEG.<br />

The activities of the YEG were focused in three main areas. They<br />

were Networking, Education and Community Outreach. Events were<br />

organized to suit the age group of the YEG.<br />

The YEG Sub-Committee was chaired<br />

by SSA Honorary Advisor Ms. Seong<br />

Koon Wah Sun. Together with Honorary<br />

Secretary Mr. Patrick Phoon; they provided<br />

mentorship guidance to the YEG in their<br />

activities.<br />
