This demonstrates why we selected theslogan "Precision with Bite" for these high-endproducts.The Shark Resectoscopes are impressive with theconsistent ergonomic design and perfectly matchedoverall system delivering intuitive handling, control and safety. Richard Wolf wants to usethese instruments to define new benchmarks inthe proven procedure of transurethral resection. The "snap-on locks" facilitate easy connectionand disconnection of system elements and areone of the highlights of this product. Our new instrumentsystem is completed by two additionalelements: the Shark tip, a beveled sheath tipmade of ceramic material and the Shark fin, afinger support which allows users to work withoutfatigue and with ergonomically designed-incomfort.New ergonomic working elements complementthe entire system and include a proximal softstop, enlarged comfort thumb rings, new lockbodies with matching and much more stableelectrodes. The elements make the systemunique and rival competitors have nothing tomatch it.One of the outstanding features in our Shark double-sheathsystem is the 360° freedom of movementof the inner sheath within the outer sheath. The outer sheath can also be connected at theinner sheath in any position as another highlightof this product. In order to provide a high level ofcost-effective investment for products manufacturedby Richard Wolf, our new resectoscopes(supplied as always with intermittent and continuousirrigation) have been developed to be compatiblewith our previous models (workingelements and sheaths). The technical characteristics of the Shark Resectoscopesimpress with their torsion-resistantsystem connectors and their optimized irrigationcross sections which prevent the occurrenceof tiresome air bubbles even when theyare operating for 12 hours. The newly developedelectrode concept significantly enhances the stabilityfactor and largely prevents the electrodesfrom tilting during application. The simplifiedcolor coding for the electrodes is also new anddifferent colors represent different sheath sizes(green=22/24 Fr., yellow=24/26 Fr., black=26Fr.). The innovative PENDUAL ® HD Camera Headis unique in the marketplace and perfectly roundsoff the system. The next generation of rigid bronchoscopesThe marketing launch of the world’s first opticalintegrated rigid bronchoscope model Texasonce again enables Richard Wolf to define afuture-oriented benchmark in respiratorymedicine. The special feature of this bronchoscope is thatthe semi-flexible endoscope can be integrateddirectly in the working sheath. This opens up awealth of different opportunities for users. Theinner lumen of the sheath is completely freeand even permits dual operation with severalinstruments at the same time under continuousoptical visualization. The user has a choice of several individuallyexchangeable bronchoscope sheaths to matchthe anatomy of the patient.Initial reports by users on their practical experienceprovide informative testimony:“The Texas Bronchoscope enables me to doeverything and I don’t need to have lots of differentbronchoscopes and accessories at theready during interventional procedures.”“This is my ideal, contemporary, rigid bronchoscopeset. It enables me to visualize all thework steps.”Another highlight is the integrated lens irrigationon the endoscope. Up to now, bronchoscopicinterventions involved the lens beingremoved from the bronchoscope tube severaltimes because it became fogged up or contaminatedby secretion. The Texas Bronchoscopehas put a stop to this hassle. The integratedlens irrigation means that the user can cleanthe lens during the operation. The product launch of the Texas Bronchoscopehighlights a new innovation in bronchoscopywithout any competition. We will developthis bronchoscope in the future withadditional accessories and a range of specialistinstruments.Raimund HalderThe family is growing – opening of Richard Wolf do BrazilThe newly established subsidiary companyRichard Wolf do Brasil Equipamentos Medicinaisin Sao Paulo, Brazil, was officially openedat the end of October as Richard Wolf continuedto pursue its new corporate strategy. This step enables Richard Wolf to achieve themarket profile closer to customers essentialfor success in this rapidly growing focusmarket that is so important for our business.Manuela Glausch is responsible for the administrativeactivities and measures being carriedout on the ground that are necessary forsuccessful registration of our products withthe national health authorities. coreReducing operation times and easier surgicalprocedures by using the latest operating technologywere the objective that the hospitalmanagement and surgeons at Ulm UniversityHospital wanted to achieve with the introductionof a new operating management system. Themanagement joined forces with purchasers andsurgeons to review a range of different operatingsystems. Ultimately, the choice was madeto adopt the core operating system supplied bymedical technology company Richard Wolf. Thissystem is already being used in more than 400hospitals and more than 20 countries worldwide.Since the middle of July, 15 new operatingtheaters have come onstream in Ulm with themanagement system. And all the personnelinvolved are extremely satisfied.Significant time resources were expended in installingthe cabling and setting up the complexinterfaces to other information systems. "Ourexpectations were entirely satisfied and we fullyendorse our decision to purchase core in all respects,"commented Martin Miller, Manager of theDepartment for Materials Management at theUniversity Hospital, in a summary of his experienceswith the core operating managementsystem. The team of employees at Richard Wolf workedtogether with the responsible managers at thehospital to develop a concept that harmonizedthe individual needs of the hospital. Thisapproach took account of the fact that the surgicaldepartment at the hospital wished to continueusing its inventory of relatively innovativesurgical instruments, whereas the instrumentsused in telemedicine and imaging were to becompletely modernized. "Ultimately, a key issuefor adopting core was the flexibility provided forseamless integration of our existing equipmentinto the operating management system," accordingto Miller. The time factor was a particular challenge forequipping the operating theatres. Richard Wolfonly required nine months from the initial consultationto the handover of the systems, includingall installation work in the 15 operatingtheaters. Intensive training for surgeons and theaterpersonnel was carried out in parallel. Thesestaff members were also very satisfied after twomonths of practical testing with the new operatingmanagement system.Axel KellerSales success in LinzThe State Neurology Hospital Wagner Jaureggin Linz has one of the biggest neurosurgerydepartments in Austria with more than 90beds and a correspondingly large number ofspine patients. Until recently, classic microsurgicaloperating techniques were beingused there. At the first presentation of instrumentsfrom Richard Wolf, our Product ManagerDirk Göthel encountered a great deal ofskepticism – and not a single doctor respondedpositively to an inquiry from the managementboard asking which of the doctorspresent would be prepared to carry out a fullendoscopic operation. However, two doctorsfinally expressed their interest in the full endoscopicprocedure and came to Herne for atraining session.OA Dr. Aichholzer and Ass. Dr. Auer returnedfull of enthusiasm and held some extendedmeetings to report on the benefits of the procedure. The result was that we were able tosell our instrument set. On 1 and 2 October, the first three full endoscopic operations weresuccessfully carried out in Linz. This hospital offers major potential for ourproducts because several thousand spineoperations are carried out each year. Webelieve that the full endoscopic procedure willgain significant importance in future andRichard Wolf Austria will therefore be able togenerate more sales in this specialist area.Manfred Oberecker/Dirk Göthel7

Movi Centenary 1912 to 2012 – a trip down memory laneSiegfried Karst, Luigi Fardella, Enrico Piero Bassani, Enrico Emilio Bassani, Jürgen Steinbeck, Christof DietzThis year Movi, the Italian distributor of RichardWolf, celebrates its centenary as a distributor formedical-instrument manufacturer Richard Wolf. The success of this cooperation has been basedon strong friendship and mutual respect, initiallystarted between Mr. Theodor Mohwinckel and Mr.Georg Wolf.Theodor Mohwinckel was my great grandfatherand his name gave rise to the company nameMovi. He came to Italy at the age of 18 in 1882 torepresent German companies in the field of plastics. He founded Th. Mohwinckel in Milan and marrieda German woman. Every year he would goback to Germany to hunt with his friend GeorgWolf in Prussia. The story goes that in 1912 theyattended a special event in Kiel harbor, togetherwith steel magnate Gustav Krupp. They picked upa piece of stainless steel from the waters of theBaltic and saw there was no rust on it. Georg Wolfunderstood the potential of stainless steel in surgicalinstruments and optics.Theodor Mohwinckel suggested that he should bethe Italian distributor and the story of Wolf andMovi has endured for over a century. It spans 3more generations and has generated positivebusiness relationships that have endured evenduring two world wars. Theodor Mohwinckelproudly introduced to Italy the first urology endoscopesmade by Georg Wolf in Berlin. In 1914, the company was confiscated by the ItalianGovernment because of its German origins. In 1922, Theodor Mohwinckel came back fromexile in Switzerland at the age of 63. He boughtback the company from the government andincreased the number of Wolf products sold inItaly, expanding the range to ENT applications. Thecompany continued distributing German productsin two segments: plastics and medical devices. The baton then passed to his sons Franz andTheodor Jr, known as Teddy, and they took overleadership of the company in the late 1930s andcontinued to run it during World War II. In 1946,following the death of his brother Franz, TeddyMohwinckel took the helm of the company with aworkforce of around 60 employees. Teddyfocused on the medical field and growing businesswith Richard Wolf which moved from Berlinto its current site in Knittlingen. In 1952, the medical department of Th. Mohwinckelbecame MOVI and in 1959 the daughter ofTeddy Mohwinckel, Anna, married a young engineercalled Paolo Bassani, who went on to buyMovi from the Mohwinckel family in 1962.Paolo Bassani developed Movi in a steady trajectoryof growth from the 1960s to the first decadeof 2000 based on his strong leadership and personalrelationship with Mr. Herbert Schubert atRichard Wolf.Today, alongside distribution of Wolf endoscopicinstruments, Movi has diversified the business intofour other medical segments: surgery, criticalcare, diabetology, and homecare.I represent the latest generation to lead Movi andwould like to thank Richard Wolf for my businesstraining spent in Knittlingen and the Wolf US subsidiaryin 1986 and 1987.Enrico Piero BassaniPresident , Movi SpaPaolo Bassani, Herbert SchubertMaquet and Richard Wolf GmbH announce major sales partnershipMaquet and Richard Wolf announced in Septembera non-exclusive sales cooperation on a regionallevel. Joining forces will place bothcompanies in the unique position of being ableto offer complete, efficient and high-quality ORintegration solutions for endoscopy. Both companies have significant market sharein their respective fields of expertise. Maquetoffers a full range of products for the OR rangingfrom tables, lights and ceiling supply units to intraoperativemedia management. Richard Wolfis one of the world’s leading manufacturers ofendoscopic equipment, providing best-in-classintegrated solutions for minimally invasive surgeryin all major surgical disciplines.A modern OR is a high-tech environment consistingof many complex devices that must worktogether seamlessly and transparently to allowthe OR staff to perform safe, high-quality surgery.Furthermore, ORs constitute part of the largerhospital IT landscape exchanging data in andout of hospital networks such as clinic informationand picture archiving systems. Managingthese devices and networks as well as dealingwith environmental control and multi-modalityvideo and image distribution is a major challengefor the OR personnel. This bulletin launches the integration of RichardWolf’s endoscopy tower, including the devicecontrol solution core.control, within Maquet’sTEGRIS system for OR integration.
