The animal, according to Draparnaud,is white, transparent, with a long contractile snout : tentaculashort, little acuminated ; eyes above the retral base <strong>of</strong> the tentacula ;footshort ; lid thin, semioval, with bent strise. Dr Pultney found his on " waterplants in rivers and ponds." Draparnaud states, that it is found on the shores<strong>of</strong> the Mediterranean, on the borders <strong>of</strong> marshes, on the earth among plants,and even burried in sand ; and expresses a suspicion that itmay prove a marineshell. In 1 80G I found a specimen in the cavity <strong>of</strong> a dead Spatanguspurpureus from the Frith <strong>of</strong> Forth. This species is probably the " Buccinumexiguum rufum quinque orbium" <strong>of</strong> List. Conch. 22. f. 19.— Donovan, inhis Brit. Shells, t. lxxx, figures this species, by mistake, for Pupa muscorum.EXTINCT.Gen. HELECINA.— Peristome entire, with a callous pillar.1.
