Enter some of his dogsinto the greyhound classes at the show and get in as an exhibitor, for the $10 nominationfee. Ben did just that.Mum put the polish on the dogs at ringside and from the six classes available togreyhounds, Ben and his mum came home with three of them ... and $250 each inprizemoney.Miss Directed (Worthy Reward-Stargari) won Class 1 for broodbitches, ProperAttack (Proper Tears-Miss Directed) took out Class 2 for dogs more than 12 months, and Class 3 for bitches more than 12 months went to Token Jeanie (Token Prince-Dream Of Jeanie).“We won ribbons and trophies as well as the $750 for the day at the show,” saidBen.“It was better than winning maidens at Capalaba.”Class 1 (broodbitches: B Shepherd’s Miss Directed 1, Running Places 2, ImpressiveMiss 3.Class 2 (dogs, 12 mths and older): J Gordon’s Proper Attack 1, Doc Jamieson 2,First Buster 3.Class 3 (bitches, 12 mths and older): B Shepherd’s Token Jeanie 1, TaramaaraJoanne 2, Doc Jamieson Run 3.Class 4 (dog pups): K Dales’ Aka (Bearability-Bailing Happy) 1, Harry (Yo Yo’sBoy-Taramara Lynette) 2, Sterlo (Bright Ebony-Passionate Pace) 3.Class 5 (Bitch pups): Higgins & Mooney’s Tiny (Yo Yo’s Boy-Taramara Lynette)1, Last (Yo Yo’s Boy-Taramara Lynette) 2, Dusty (Addis Boy-Stellar Irene) 3.Capalaba NewsThe John Klose Retravision seriescontinues to be a huge success attracting manynominations and creating competitive racing. Most trainers are wondering when it willbe trialled by a TAB club. The concept would have to be alteredslightly to allow for 4 heats into 3 finals or 3heats into 2 finals but if the support atCapalaba is an indication it is what trainerswant.Capalaba now intends to trial the sameconcept with a monthly maiden series. We will be programming two heats of amaiden going into two finals.Once again these concepts can only besuccessful with the support of trainers.Refurbishment of the toilets and bar atCapalaba is on the agenda. The committeehas allocated $2000 for the update.‘Dogsie’DolanBy Owen EdmondsBe they millionaires or scrubbersBe they pensioners or kingsBe they punters of the greyhoundsThere’s one name that surely ringsThrough wireless racing channelsThrough the channel known as SkyYou can hear the voice of DolanWhen your dog is set to tryHe’s been christened “Dogsie” DolanBy a bygone racing crewHe also calls the thoroughbredsAnd he’s full of racing newsAnd yes his beard is turning grayAnd his hair is surely thinningBut his voice is always sounding greatWhen the bet you’ve had is winningHe started calling greyhoundsIn the seventies at the TweedTook an interest in the sportTo own one was his needBought himself a well-bred bitchFrom the famous Temlee linePaid a lot of dollars outBut just bought wasted timeI imagine it’s the Irish bloodThat draws him to the racesAlthough he has no Irish brogueHis tips sometimes show tracesOf what the Leprechauns may seeWhen he tips your dog as bestThe green men get the upper handHis tips the kiss of deathWell, interviews Australia-wideBe it Paul or Bunny BraschOr callers from the southern statesOnce interviewed, that’s thatThe dog won’t go the way you hopedThey seem to hit the snagsAs though you swapped the racing rugFor leaden saddle bagsAnd yes he’s made the odd mistakeWhen he once forgot the leaderCalled the pack the entire raceAnd claimed he never seen itTried his hand at boxing dogsFor a friend one day at TweedRetrieving the dog out of the damTangled in the reedsWell, I don’t suppose we should complainHe’s called all round the worldHe usually gets the close ones rightAnd doesn’t mince his wordsSo when you see him make a blueDon’t put the crap on PaulJust trot up stairs and try yourselfAnd see if you can callThe (September, 2005) Journal Page 18
The NORTHFIELD family from Northern NSW has been in greyhound racing since the1930s. In that time you would reckon they would become pretty fair judges of a dog.Brad Northfield has bred more than his fair share of good dogs, and a host ofgreat dogs as well. In recent months Brad has TWICE used SURF LORIAN at stud, firstwith Centre Flame (Light Of Fire-Fairy Princess) and more recently with Beclisa Ash(Major Fox-Celeste Sands). Centre Flame's pups are rising seven months old. Beclisa Ashis due to whelp.Brad Northfield is wrapped in the SURF LORIAN-Centre Flame pups.'They are all good types, with very goodtemperaments, and all of them are full of go. Whenthey grab onto something you just can't stop them.'Peter Bellamy, owner of SURF LORIAN, thought so much of this litterhe bought two dogs and a bitch for himself. Why then did Brad use Surf Lorian ... TWICE?'Firstly, I liked his breeding. But SURF LORIANwas an out and out champion. He did what mostdogs don't do at their peak. And SURF LORIAN didit when he was just a pup. Track record breakersmake the best sires, and for him to equal the AlbionPark track record as a pup was just phenomenal.'SurfBlue Brindle Dog, April 2002, 33.3kgs.Just The Best-Barrio Fiesta by West Cape.19 starts, 15 wins, 1 2nd, 1 3rd.Set or equalled four track records.LorianFee: $2200 (inc GST) Frozen Semen availableContact Tony and Jane Apap (07) 54621201The (September, 2005) Journal Page 19
