Eventually Tonybrought him home and for six years he headedinto the RNA show with the dog.“We won three firsts, a second a third anda fourth at the RNA,” said Tony. “He was amagnificent looking dog.”By this time Tony and Maureen were apartnership. “We have raced a lot of dogs,some good, some handy, but mostly wemoved them on when they had reached theirmark. Maureen taught me to be realistic aboutdogs.”One such dog was the multiple AlbionPark winner Star Manner (Star Title-Manawapoi). “He won four at Ipswich andwon on a Monday night and again on theThursday night at Albion Park in the sameJust Genes A.B. The bitchwhelped a litter to Just The Best and Maureenand Tony drove to Casino to take a look atthe litter.“June, Pat and James Blore had bred thelitter and I was very keen to get a pup,” saidTony.“I picked out one that had a shadow onher muzzle and was certain my mum Cherylwould love it. But to their credit, June andPat suggested that bitch was a bit timid andwe should pick another.“The one we got was Capishe’s Figlia.”As well as her track record at Beenleigh,Capishe’s Figlia won seven races at AlbionPark (all over 600m), three at Beenleigh, oneat Capalaba, three at Casino two at Ipswich,and one at the Gold Coast, 17 in all.“She earned $23,000 and ran 28.17 tobreak the record at Beenleigh,” said Tony ofhis pride and joy. “She got a start as a reservein her maiden debut at casino and won in27.67.“When she broke the track record, that’swhen Maureen told me she would keep us indogs for a long time to come.”Capishe’s Figlia has a four-month oldlitter, her first, to Royal Assassin. “We did abit of homework on the bloodlines and foundthat the smart Sea Serenade is by RoyalAssassin out of a Just The Best bitch,” saidTony.Tony has kept a blue fawn bitch and ablack bitch.
