Darren BeavisGeneral ManagerSINCE the introduction of the Internetnomination service, the grading panel hasnoticed a drop off of its use in recentweeks. If trainers have particular concernsabout this means of nominating, then theyshould contact the grading panel between 2-3pm any work day. They will be more than happy to taketrainers through the process. There are a number of trainers whoregularly utilise the Internet to nominatetheir dogs, but we are finding mostnominations are still via the phone. We want to encourage more and moretrainers to utilise this very user-friendlyservice.IT’S time for greyhound racing in thisstate to show our industry is a statewideentity. The GRA is in the process ofdeveloping a unique brand for our sport. In the not too distant future the GRAwill become “Greyhounds Queensland”,and as a consequence of that, we expect theclubs to follow, and be named “GreyhoundsIpswich”, “Greyhounds Townsville” etcusing the unique logo. The new names will also incorporate theGRA’s three-dog logo and will be standardfor all clubs.Greyhound racing, greyhound clubs andthe controlling body will in future be one inthis state. The northern clubs were asked theiropinion of this at the recent NorthQueensland clubs conference and all agreedit was a great idea. Each club will be required to changetheir names and this can only be done at aspecial AGM.KENNELLING fees will be a standard$11 from September 1.This matter was raised at the northernclubs conference in Townsville.Fees now range from $5 to $12 but theboard of the GRA agreed a standard $11was necessary to help finance northernclubs. Some feature races carrying a higher feeand this will remain at the discretion ofeach club.THE northern clubs have been asked toconsider a GRA plan to prepare theirfinancial accounts. The GRA is anxious to get a moreaccurate guide to the running of each cluband will conduct a trial with one clubinitially to see if such a plan is feasible, workable and suitable for both the GRAand the club. Many of the clubs in the north havepart-time secretaries who are restricted injust what time they have to conductbusiness. The secretaries of these clubs areexceptional in the work they get througheach month and every year, but the GRA ishopeful of easing some of this workload. This should free up some time toundertake activities concerning the club i.e.sponsorship etc.KAY and Mick Thrupp have donatedthe use of their champion broodbitch CallCollect for charity. The bitch will be mated to Elite Statewhen next she comes on season and thepups will be sold for charity. This is the second such sale, followingthe successful sale of a Just The Best-TopShelf litter which are now 13 months oldand raised $15,000 for five differentcharities.Manly Vet Clinic will inseminate thebitch, Kay Thrupp will whelp the litter andrear them until weaning or sale.Broncos superstar Barry Berrigan hasalready order one of the litter at a price tobe negotiated. The charities to benefit from the salewill be decided soon.Inquiries can be made through the GRA.Now that'sinterestingIt is believed the name“greyhound” stemmed from theAnglo Saxon words meaning “firstgrade of hounds”.Box draw bunkumBy A EinsteinIt amazed me to see yet again in a recent newspaper article there seems to be concernabout box draws. The perceived concern is that trainers with two dogs in a race are being drawn next toeach other more often that not because of some computer "problem". I have seen this oldchestnut raised again and again over many years from various sections. The answer to why this happens could have be answered by any Grade 5 maths studentbut seems not to be understood by certain members of the greyhound fraternity. The odds of a trainer with two dogs in the one race having them drawn side by side arealmost one in three or about 28%.To explain that, imagine you have drawn box 5 with your first dog.It then falls that there are two options for your other dog to be drawn next to them, ineither box 4 or 6. That is TWO options out of the remaining seven boxes. Two divided by seven equals 28.5 percent !!!!That is a better the one in four chance and almost a one in three chance that this willoccur when a trainer has two dogs in a race..You’d have to agree that means it WILL occur quite often ... it has to.White Rose Boarding KennelsWalloon, IpswichWhere good rearing doesn’t cost, it pays.Top trainers use & recommend our showcasekennels as they know only the best will do.Vacancies available for . . .WHELPING, REARING,SPELLINGPuppies get lots of handling andsocialising, Quality fresh food,Regular worming.Natural rearing available onrequest.
