AIA north carolinachapter awardsand honorsAIA North Carolina announced its 2008 awardwinners at the Design Awards Banquet held onthe evening of Saturday, August 23,2008 at theWestin Hotelin Charlotte, North Carolina.In 2009, the award winners were announcedon Saturday, August 22 at the North CarolinaMuseum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh, NorthCarolina.The 2010, winners were announced during anawards banquet held at the gardens at BiltmoreEstate in Asheville, North Carolina on Saturday,September 18, 2010.A five-person Awards committee, appointedyearly by the Chapter president and chaired bythe immediate past president, is responsiblefor reviewing the nominations and selecting arecipient.AIA North Carolina - F. Carter WilliamsGold MedalThis is the highest honor presented by theChapter to a member of AIA North Carolina.It is awarded to an individual in recognitionof a distinguished career or extraordinaryaccomplishments as an architect.The Gold Medalwas created by the Board of Directors in 1976.The first recipient was Luther Snow Lashmit. Until1998, Lashmit was the only architect to receivethis award. lt was at that time re-named in honorof the late Raleigh architect F. CarterWilliams,FAIA. The Williams family has established anendowment in support of the Gold Medal.. Miscellaneousmaterial (clippings,articles,etc.) not to exceed three pages. In addition, firms that have beenreorganized and whose name has been changedor modified are also eligible, as long as the firmhas been in operation in North Carolina for aperiod of at least 10 years. Although firms thatare headquartered in other states or firms thatperform the majority of their work in other statesor countries are eligible, the firm's work andimpact within the state of North Carolina shallbe of primary consideration. A firm owned ormanaged by the Chapter president, presidentelector members of the Awards committee shallnot be eligible for consideration.NOMINATIONSNominations may be made by members, thepublic, or by AIA North Carolina sections.
