AIA north carolinachapter & section staffDavid Crawford, Hon. AIAExecutive Vice PresidentDavid Crawford joined AIA North Carolina at thebeginning of 2001 after serving as Executive Directorwith AIA San Diego for 10 years. Prior to that, heserved as Director of Professional Practice andAssistant Director of Government Relations with theAIA California Council for four years.Crawford received his B.A. in Political Science fromCalifornia State University, Fullerton. He was selectedto finish his undergraduate work as part of the CalState University system's prestigious SacramentoSemester Program. Following graduation in 1984, heworked briefly as a political operative for a CaliforniaState Assembly member and then began his legislativecareer as a manager for the state's first onlinelegislative tracking service. He began his lobbyingcareer in 1986 with the California Probation, Parole andCorrectional Association.Crawford sat on the Board of Directors of the twoaccredited architecture schools in San Diego for fiveyears and served on various city and regional advisorycommittees. He is a member of the American Societyof Association Executives and in 1996-97 chairedthe California Council of Architectural ComoonentExecutives (California CACE). In 2006, he wasPresident of the National Council of ArchitecturarComponent Executives.Jo Ellen HighBusrness M a nag e r/Prog ra m s D i rectorJo Ellen High joined the AIA North Carolina staff inAugust l9B9. Some of her duties as business managerinclude managing the financial records, maintainingrecords for AIA-PAC and NC Arch. Foundation, andserving as staff liaison for the annual design awardsprogram. For five years prior to working with theAlA, High held a financial position with the BiblicalRecorder, the news journal for the Baptist StateConvention, headquartered in Raleigh. High attendedbusiness college and received an accounting certificatein 1970. She has previous experience in the fields ofinsurance and mortgage banking. After 21 years ofservice, Jo Ellen will officially retire in March of 20'11Marynell GehrkeDirector of Special EventsMarynell Gehrke joined the AIA North Carolina staffin January 1995 after working since 1992 with OlsonManagement Group, an association managementcompany. As director of special events, Gehrke actsas staff liaison for the convention (Summer DesignConference) and continuing education committeesand all AIA North Carolina meeting and conferenceplanning. Gehrke received a Bachelor of Sciencedegree from the University of North Carolina inindustrial relations in 1984.Kathie RaineyDirector of Member ServicesKathie Rainey joined AIA North Carolina in t99Bas Administrative Assistant to the Executive VicePresident. A North Carolina native, she comes fromPinehurst, but calls Raleigh home now. Her many yearsof retail management bring a strong background ofcustomer service to our members. Her exoerience asan executive assistant in various corporate settings iswell suited to the AlA.Keri DixonDirector of Programs and CommunicationsKeri Dixon joined AIA NC in June 2010. Keri is agraduate of Western Carolina University in NorthCarolina and studied Professional Writing and History.Keri has a background in communications, andpreviously worked as the Director of Communicationsfor The Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina. She nasexperience with creating and maintaining websites,electronic newsletters, and magazines (digital andprint), as well as experience creating short videos andphotographic coverage of events. She uses these skillsas a part of the AIA NC staff to offer members servicesfor sharing information throughout the state. Her majorresponsibilities include the production of the Architectnewslettel maintenance of the AIA NC website, andemail updates to AIA members through the News &Notes.
