called “modernism,” have shown themselves to be heretical and are tobe treated accordingly. There is no more doubt in their case. There is noguessing or looking into hearts, which is not the prerogative of theChristian, but the clear revelation that these are false teachers,unbelievers, false prophets, and therefore ones which must not beallowed to obtain possession of God’s flock, especially His lambs. Theseare to be separated from as the <strong>Bible</strong> unflaggingly commands, andChristians are to display the same rebuking attitude toward them that theLord displayed to the Christ-rejecting Pharisees in Matthew 23. They bytheir unbelief, and their teaching and advocacy of the same, haverevealed themselves to be enemies of Christ and His Church and all oftheir claims of love to Christ are shown to be false by their wickedprofession of unbelief. In this they are seen to be wolves in sheep’sclothing, self-righteous hypocritical pious frauds who will only leadGod’s flock astray if allowed.The cooperative evangelist is disobedient to the Scripture when hedoes not display this attitude of rebuke and warning to the liberals, andby his cooperating with them and approving of them before the public,his disobedience is openly rebellious to God’s revealed will. Dr. Ferm’swords, “Therefore the missionary or evangelist takes no risk inpracticing a cooperative policy,” set aside the <strong>Bible</strong>’s commands for adiscrimination between brethren and heretics and places its stamp ofapproval on a policy of insubordination to the Word of God on thisissue. 7Dr. Ferm’s words, “. . . it is safer, as a rule, to seek to cooperateunless cooperation affords no open door [italics mine],” rejects animproper criterion for cooperation. The <strong>Bible</strong>’s criterion calls forcooperation with a brother who is of sound doctrine and of an orderlylife. Complete harmony on denominational distinctives and minormatters is not required. It is not a criterion based upon opportunity; noteven opportunity to do good or to preach the Gospel. The ends do notjustify the means, for the Lord would have gained a greater opportunityto preach in Jewry if He had confined His healings to the six nonsabbaticaldays, but He on countless occasions sacrificed opportunity inorder to heal a person on the Sabbath when He could easily have healedthem on the day before or after.
