2012...Continued from page 67Immediately, one link is so clear thatit almost jumps off of the page. The places in our world with thelowest magnetic intensity, such asthe zero contour line (zero magneticgauss), which runs directly beneaththe Suez Canal and into Israel, areprecisely the places where we see thegreatest opportunities for change.Sometimes the change comes as asmooth transition from one idea tothe next. Sometimes it comes as astruggle. In our Middle East example,we see the struggle that canresult from the attempt to preserveancient tradition in a place that compelschange. The low magnetic fielddoes not mean that the change mustbe expressed as conflict; it simplyprovides the conditions for new waysof looking at things. Once again, it isup to those living in these zones ofopportunity how they express thechange that the low fields invite.A similar zero magnetic contourline exists parallel to America’s WestCoast. Not surprisingly, this is a partof the world that is also known as ahotbed for change, although it isexpressed in a different way than inthe Middle East. Stretching fromsouthern California to northernWashington, this zone of low magneticstrength is often seen as a realmof new thought and innovation—andwith that innovation, we find leadingideas in science, technology, fashion, music, and art.On the opposite end of the spectrum, there are zones of extremelyhigh magnetism where, historically, change comes about slowly overtime, and often as the result of astruggle. In central Russia, for example, contour values are some of thehighest in the world, with readings atover 150 gauss units. Russia’s recentexperience with the political reorganizationthat coincided with theend of the Cold War is a beautifulexample of how areas with highmagnetic fields tend to cling to traditionand embrace change slowly, over a long period of time. However,it also shows that once change beginsin these areas, it carries a momentumthat makes itself known in a way thatcannot be missed.Even without such evidence, weknow intuitively that we are affectedby planetary magnetic forces. Anylaw enforcement officer or healthcarepractitioner will attest to theintense, and sometimes bizarre, behavior that is seen during a fullmoon. When the magnetic strengthchanges suddenly, it changes the waywe feel, and that change can be disorientingif we don’t understand whyit happens. To those who do understand, however, such moments canbe a powerful gift—the opportunityto release the patterns of belief thathave caused pain in their lives, hurtin their families, and disease in theirbodies, and to embrace new and lifeaffirmingbeliefs. Artists and musiciansknow this and often anticipatefull-moon cycles as periods of greatcreativity. These existing examplesof the connection between consciousnessand magnetism offerimportant insights into how futurechanges in magnetic strength mayaffect us, as some expect them to,during the 2012 cycle.Rewriting TheReality CodeIs it possible that by altering the waywe feel about change in our lives, wecan actually transform the way weexperience things, like the frighteningpredictions of 2012? While thereare a number of new discoveries thatshow us how consciousness directlyaffects our world, they are generallyvariations of the nearly century-oldexperiment designed to determinehow much our beliefs really affectour reality. In 1909, Geoffrey IngramTaylor, a British physicist, devisedthe famous Double Slit Experimentand began a revolution in the way weview ourselves in the universe. Thebottom line of his experiment wasthat the mere presence of consciousnessin a room—people—affectedthe way the quantum particles (thestuff our world is made of ) behaved. On February 26, 1998, Taylor’sexperiment was repeated by scientistsat Israel’s Weizmann Institute ofScience. Not only did they confirmthat our world is affected just byobservation, but they also discoveredthat “the greater the amount of‘watching,’ the greater the observer’sinfluence on what actually takesplace.” In other words, the morethose present focused on the experiment, the greater the influence theirfocus had on the outcome. And hereinlies the key to understanding whatquantum physics and the Mayan calendarmay really be saying to usabout our power in the universe. Our world, our lives, and ourbodies are the result of the quantumlanguage of our beliefs, judgments, love, and fear regarding those things. The same theories that describe ourreality as being influenced by ourbeliefs suggest that if we want tochange our reality, we must changethe way we see ourselves. In 1957,Princeton University physicist HughEverett III carried these ideas onestep further, creating the theory thatdescribes how the focus of ourawareness creates reality. In a landmark paper that includedhis Many Worlds Theory, Everettdescribed simple moments in timewhen it becomes possible to “jump”from one reality to another by creatinga quantum bridge between thetwo already-existing possibilities. Hecalled these windows of opportunity“choice points” and described themas the times when conditions make itpossible to begin one path of experienceand then to change the outcomeof that experience by changing thefocus of our awareness—our beliefs. From this perspective, the 2012end-date appears to represent a great70 EARTH STAR FEBRUARY / MARCH 2008www.earthstarmag.com
