PARIS CONGRESS25th IELA CONGRESSBACK TO BASICSIELA’s Silver Anniversary was certainlycelebrated in style and what a spectacularcity to celebrate it in. We worked hard andwe played hard, but still met our objectiveof getting “Back to Basics” – networking,meeting friends and writing business!The one objective set up for the 25th IELACongress was, for sure, reached: GOINGBACK TO BASICS. The application of ourmantra was done from the start. Two BoardMembers were responsible for welcomingand guiding new IELA members and firstcomers to the Congress in order to“transmit” the authenticity and value ofIELA.Sharp business was achieved at the 1-2-1Networking Session while core subjects werediscussed during the Breakout Sessions:How does IELA interface as an organisationwith organiser groups? Is there a role for aco-ordinated approach to IT systems byIELA? What does the IELA future hold? Whatdo people want? Who should join IELA?Why don’t we share customs information? Isthis beneficial to members? How do wemake this work?The outcome was that focus should begiven to sharing expertise and experiencee.g. customs; that networking andcommunication were key among allmembers and also with other organisationswithin the industry such as SISO, UFI, AFECAamong others. Tools such as Facebook andVideo Conference could be used to enhancecommunication. A conclusion was that theIELA spirit needs to stayintact by focusing onhigh standards as wellas quality.A day out in thecountryside...in themiddle of Paris! ThePavillons de Bercy welcomed the group in an“enchanted and playful environment”. Theweather helping, lunch under the chestnutswas perfect for some relaxing and fruitfulnetworking ... until some delegatesshortened the day to go and watch thefootball!Did the World Cup create unificationbetween the different nationalities that day,or was it just that our aim to GO BACK TOBASICS was reached?!“It was a constructive meeting again.
