green businesstowards excellenceCII-Godrej Green Business CentreEnergy Efficiency SummitThe 9th edition of the Energy Efficiency Summit 2010was held from 1-4 September in Chennai, to initiate anational energy conservation movement.The Summit provided a platform for informationdissemination on the latest technologies, andcatalysed business opportunities for energy equipmentmanufacturers and suppliers.The four-day event was marked by the followingsessions Management-2010 The 11th National Award for Excellence in EnergyManagement was organised on 1- 2 September, as partof the Energy Efficiency Summit. The Award recognizesexcellencein EnergyManagementin industriesand facilitatesthe sharingof informationby excellentenergy efficientcompanies.Dr Naushad Forbes, Chairman, EnergySummit, Dr Ajay Mathur, Director General,BEE, and L S Ganapati, Chairman, NationalAward for Excellence in Energy ManagementDr Ajay Mathur,Director General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, (BEE)presented the 20 top industrial units with the Awardon 2 September.Earlier, out of the numerous entries to the Award, 38companies were shortlisted. These companies haveachieved an annual recurring saving of Rs. 914 croresin the past three years, which is equivalent to 96 MWsavings. These savings were achieved by implementing2467 projects.On 2 September, a CD containing Case Studies onEnergy Efficiency compiled from the CII-National Awardfor Excellence in Energy Management conducted in2007, 2008 and 2009 was released.A Manual onBest Practices inThermal Systemswas released on3 September. TheManual containsmore than a dozenbest practices whichwould lead to a 10-15% savings in energyconsumption.MoU on Water ManagementThe CII Water Instituteinked a MoU with theWater Industry Allianceof South Australia on6 September in Chennai.The MoU will facilitateboth organizations towork together in theareas recycling, transferof technology and sharingof best practices.T T Ashok, Dy Chairman, CII (SR);Dr Ajay Mathur, and Rajeev Ranjan,Principal Secretary, Industries,Tamil NaduSigning of MoU on WaterManagementEnterprise Risk ManagementA seminar on Enterprise Risk Management was organisedby the CII-Total Cost Management Division (TCM) on17 September in Bangalore.The seminar explored the risk management challengesfacing global organizations, discussed leading practicesand shared the perspectives of board members,investors, and corporate executives on building a riskresilient company.World Green Building WeekThe Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), a FoundingMember of the World GBC celebrated World Green BuildingWeek from 20-26 September. IGBC local chapters, certifiedprojects and registered projects and other stakeholdersalso celebrated the Week across the country.As part of the celebrations, the Centre invited schooland college students to the building and briefed themon its green features.Communiqué October 2010 | 35
