FIONA TONKINTEACHERS’SEMINARSUNDAY <strong>17</strong> MARCH <strong>2013</strong>Closing Date: Monday 4 March <strong>2013</strong>VENUE: First Floor 104 Bay Street BrightonFACULTYFiona Tonkin began her career in Wellington where she joined the <strong>Royal</strong> New Zealand Ballet in 1979. Her associationwith The Australian Ballet began in 1980 when Marilyn Jones invited her to join the company. By 1987 she hadbecome a Principal Artist, renowned for her interpretative artistry, classicism and technical versatility. On her retirementin 1993, she had danced almost every major female role in the company's repertoire. Career highlights with TheAustralian Ballet include her performances at the <strong>Royal</strong> Opera House, the Kirov Theatre and the Metropolitan OperaHouse and opening the company's, 1992 London Coliseum season as Giselle. She appeared as a Guest Artist with theKirov Ballet in Swan Lake, on Rudolf Nureyev's Farewell Tour, and danced lead roles in the ABC TV broadcasts <strong>of</strong> LaFille mal gardée and Romeo and Juliet. Fiona received Green Room Awards in 1988 and 1989. Fiona returned to NewZealand in 1994 where she completed a Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Arts at Canterbury University while guest teaching in NewZealand and Australia. In 1999 she completed The Australian Ballet School's Pr<strong>of</strong>essional <strong>Dance</strong> Teachers Courseand was awarded the Australian Multicultural Foundation Scholarship. In 2000 Artistic Director Matz Skoog appointedher Rehearsal Director <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Royal</strong> New Zealand Ballet. She continued to work with Skoog in London as AssistantArtistic Director <strong>of</strong> the English National Ballet in 2002. Fiona has worked with many choreographers including StantonWelch, Mark Morris, Christopher Hampson and Mark Baldwin. Fiona returned to The Australian Ballet in 2003 at theinvitation <strong>of</strong> David McAllister as Principal Coach and Ballet Mistress.AUDREY NICHOLLS FRAD OAMAudrey Nicholls was a principal dancer with Ballet Rambert and leading soloist with The Borovansky Ballet. With fellowdancer Eve King Audrey ran a successful school in Melbourne for over 40 years During this time she was also a guestdancer with the Victorian Ballet Guild and resident ballerina with HSV 7. Audrey still continues her dancing career inguest appearances with The Australian Ballet in Graeme Murphy’s Nutcracker and more recently in Sir Peter Wright’sNutcracker. Audrey has a long history with the <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dance</strong> having been appointed Children’s Examinerfor the RAD in 1973 and in 1997 a Tutor. Audrey is now the Victorian Tasmanian Panel Patron and works as afreelance teacher.VIKTORIYA TITOVAFormer ballerina at the Kiev Ballet Viktoriya Titova trained in the Russian Vaganova method studying under renownedteachers including Tatiana Axekian and Alla Lagoda. She relocated to Melbourne after the Kiev Opera and Ballet’s2001 International tour <strong>of</strong> Australia. Viktoriya specialises in tutoring aspiring dancers in preparation for auditions,competitions, scholarships, pr<strong>of</strong>essional dance companies and schools. She also prepares students for entry into thebroad and competitive dance European market. Training is in the Vaganova method with emphasis on methodology,technique, characterisation, expression, accent and musicality. Viktoriya also sits on national and international juriesfor ballet competitions. Victorian rhythmic gymnasts also benefit from her knowledge as she coaches elite students inMelbourne.COLIN PEASLEY OAMColin Peasley studied dance in Sydney with Valrene Tweedie and Gertrude Bodenwieser. His early pr<strong>of</strong>essionalengagements were in musicals and on television and he joined the Australian Ballet for its inaugural season in 1962.He was given a position on the ballet staff <strong>of</strong> the Australian Ballet during the time Robert Helpmann was ArtisticDirector and became ballet master and then regisseur general. He was also a principal dancer with the AustralianBallet from 1987 until 1997 and throughout his performing career with the company scored major successes insignificant character roles in works such as Coppelia, Nutcracker, La Fille mal Gardee, The Merry Widow and DonQuixote. In the mid 1990s Peasley was <strong>of</strong>fered the position <strong>of</strong> Director <strong>of</strong> the company's Education Program, a positionhe continues to hold. He was awarded an OAM in 1996 and was inducted into the Australian <strong>Dance</strong> Awards Hall <strong>of</strong>Fame in 2005.Sponsored by RAD VIC TAS REGIONAL PANEL
