2. If both <strong>CalWORKs</strong> and Food Stamps pass:<br />

<strong>CalWORKs</strong> <strong>Handbook</strong><br />

� <strong>CalWORKs</strong> cash aid can only be authorized to begin the first<br />

day after the applicants discontinuance from CAAP.<br />

� Food Stamps should be authorized for the first day <strong>of</strong> the<br />

month following the discontinuance <strong>of</strong> the NAFS case, as must<br />

follow QR regulations.<br />

3. Delete the Notice <strong>of</strong> Action about the approval <strong>of</strong> the FS program. Since<br />

there<br />

is no break in aid, the Notice is not necessary.<br />

4. Align the <strong>CalWORKs</strong> cycles with the existing FS cycles from the NAFS<br />

case.<br />

5. Contact the CAAP and NAFS workers to inform them that the applicant<br />

has<br />

approved for <strong>CalWORKs</strong>. The NAFS worker must discontinue the NAFS<br />

case.<br />

6. Request that the CAAP worker discontinue the CAAP case as soon as<br />

possible.<br />

IV. Concurrent CAAP and <strong>CalWORKs</strong> benefit issuance<br />

If an applicant currently on CAAP applies for <strong>CalWORKs</strong>, and is found eligible,<br />

the<br />

CAAP grant is budgeted as income for the month <strong>of</strong> application.<br />

V. Applicants for <strong>CalWORKs</strong> who are approved for Food Stamps only:<br />

If an applicant for <strong>CalWORKs</strong> is found to be ineligible for <strong>CalWORKs</strong> but is<br />

eligible for<br />

Food Stamps, the following actions must be taken:<br />

� Contact NAFS.<br />

� NAFS will assign the case to a NAFS worker in CalWIN.<br />

� The case folder stays at the front desk at 170 Otis. NAFS will<br />

arrange to<br />

make copies <strong>of</strong> necessary documents.<br />
