“pilloried the book as a consummate example of the kind of iniquitous falsity which he insistedwas destroying American religious faith” (p. 230).Breasted said of himself, “I am a proud fellow, proud as Lucifer, and my pride and my will, willcarry me through almost anything” (p. 241).Frederic KenyonKenyon treated the Bible in a very naturalistic fashion, denying its divine inspiration andpreservation. He claimed that the Pentateuch was written by unknown authors and was not puttogether in its present form until the time of Ezra or even later (Our Bible and the AncientManuscripts, p. 32).
