However, <strong>the</strong> word miracle is derived from <strong>the</strong> Latin word miraculummeaning ‘something wonderful’ and had we commissioned Nathan to produce a similar piece <strong>of</strong>work for <strong>the</strong> <strong>School</strong>, he could have boldly declared <strong>The</strong>re are miracles here – <strong>the</strong>re is ‘somethingwonderful’ here.We try to share <strong>the</strong> ‘something wonderful’ that is <strong>The</strong> <strong>Glasgow</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Art</strong> in every <strong>issue</strong> <strong>of</strong> Flowand this <strong>issue</strong> is no different, sharing with you <strong>the</strong> successes and achievements <strong>of</strong> our students,alumni and staff, but also some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> challenges that <strong>the</strong> <strong>School</strong> is facing and <strong>the</strong> creative waysin which we are addressing <strong>the</strong>m. Colin washonoured for his services toarchitecture.Olympic Medals Unveiled<strong>The</strong> 2008 Olympic Medals havebeen unveiled by <strong>the</strong>ir designer,Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Xiao Yong, <strong>of</strong> partnerinstitution <strong>The</strong> Central Academy<strong>of</strong> Fine <strong>Art</strong>s in Beijing – withwhich <strong>the</strong> GSA operates a jointinternational programme.Made <strong>of</strong> gold and jade, <strong>the</strong>medals symbolise nobility andvirtue, and represent traditionalChinese values <strong>of</strong> ethics andhonour.
