<strong>PERSEUS</strong> WiNN-Mobile <strong>V2</strong>The IP mobile solution Radio ControllerThe <strong>PERSEUS</strong> WiNN Mobile <strong>V2</strong> is the reliable and cost-effective Radio Controller solution designed bySELEX Elsag for Rail Transit, Railway and Automotive applications to provide local and geographicalconnectivity and to deliver integrated voice and data communication services in a mobile environment.Based on a modular architecture, WiNN Mobile <strong>V2</strong> can be equipped with a rich set of interfaces to managethe interconnected subsystems realizing a wide set of services relevant to train-ground communications,on-board security, vehicle monitoring and additional value-added applications.Thanks to the multiple managed radio modules (either embedded or external), WiNN Mobile <strong>V2</strong> allowsthe on-board subsystems to be permanently connected to the relevant control centre applications viadifferent professional and/or public networks. The most suitable radio bearer is selected according tocriteria such as requested quality, type of service and link reliability. Particularly, WiNN Mobile <strong>V2</strong> supportsstatic and dynamic IP routing to provide data mobility between local environment and external networks.WiNN Mobile <strong>V2</strong> withstands typical Rolling Stock environmental disturbances, such as vibrations andshocks, thanks to a robust and compact design based on a fanless platform embodied in a ruggedmechanical chassis with tight connectors, supporting extended temperature ranges.


ArchitectureWiNN Mobile <strong>V2</strong> HW main boards are:• The Mother Board, including CPU module.• The Interface Board, connected to the Mother Board andgenerating all equipment interfaces, and housing theaudio-matrix which provides audio switching to multiplesources.• The Connector Board, connected to the Interface Boardand to the embedded Radio module(s), reporting theequipment and radio interfaces on external connectors.• The Power Supply Board, getting the external powersource and providing all the internal voltage referencesneeded for the normal operation of the other boards.In basic configuration, WiNN Mobile <strong>V2</strong> platform providesthe following main benefits:• Integrated Power Supply with 24 VDC (9 to 36 VDC) or110 VDC (77 to 137 VDC) fully compliant to EN 50155class S2.• Integrated TETRA/TEDS radio functionality, with embeddedGPS Receiver• Audio switching capability, thanks to the integrated audiomatrix• I/O capability, thanks to the presence of digital I/O portsto use the vehicle signals• Integrated Ethernet Switch, providing 2 x FE LAN portson M12 connectors• Serial line interface (2 x RS232, 3 x RS485, 2 x USBports)• Integrated CAN vehicle bus.The WiNN Mobile <strong>V2</strong> can be provided with the followingoptional add-on modules:• MVB bus• Up to 3 radio modules (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GSM / GPRS /UMTS / HSDPA 7.2).The WiNN Mobile <strong>V2</strong> can be upgraded with the ExpansionBoard, providing the following improvements:• Additional Audio Bus, UIC 568• Integrated Audio Amplifier, providing 2 x Output 15W, 4Ohm• 3 additional FE LAN ports on M12 connectors• 4 PoE ports (the 3 additional LAN ports and one of theexisting ports)• 2 additional USB ports• 2 Analogue Inputs• Ready for the add-on of other 2 radio modules (up to 5radio modules overall).


The WiNN Mobile <strong>V2</strong> SW architecture is based on Linux OS,and includes the set of drivers to manage all equipmentinterfaces and radio module(s).The open SW framework supplies all the needed interfacesboth to embed proprietary applications and to develop valueaddedsolutions providing specific operational features.A major benefit is the ability to customize the Radio ControllerMMI thanks to the API ("Socket Comms" in the Figure),masking the device infrastructure to provide an easy accessto the communication capabilities.SELEX Elsag can provide the complete VAS SW package,tailored on the specific operational requirements, or canassist the Customer SW design team in development itsproprietary applications.Markets and applicationsMETRORAILWAYSThe WiNN Mobile <strong>V2</strong> can be used as on-board Control Uniton MRT/LRT trains, for both driver-based and driverlessapplications, so to guarantee reliable communications andto get travelling personnel in touch with ground-based staff,both in day-to-day operation and in emergency situations.Specifically, as core part of the integrated On-Board System,the WiNN Mobile <strong>V2</strong> can realize typical operational functionssuch as:• Voice communications between Train Operator and OCCin line operations• Voice communications between Train Operator andShunting personnel in depot area• On-board broadcast of PA audio announcements and PIDvisual messages, either pre-recorded (triggered by onboardSignaling System) or live by OCC• Intercom, allowing for voice communications betweenpassengers, Train Operator and OCC• On-board audio-surveillance (ambience listening) by OCC• On-board video-surveillance (CCTV), with real-time videostreaming to OCC• Signaling System -generated data reporting to OCC forvehicle diagnostic and monitoring• Broadband data exchange in maintenance area for logfiles upload and SW upgrade purposesThanks to the additional 3GPP Radio modules and toExpansion Board providing the UIC bus, the WiNN Mobile<strong>V2</strong> can be usefully employed as on-board Control Unit onHSR trains to address passenger-oriented services aswireless Internet, Infotainment, PIS and CCTV.In particular, as core part of the integrated On-Board System,the WiNN Mobile <strong>V2</strong> can provide the following functionalities:• On-board broadcast of PA audio announcements and PIDvisual messages, either pre-recorded (triggered bytrackside system and GPS data) or live by Train Driverand Train Staff• Intercom, allowing for voice communications betweenpassengers and Train Staff• Infotainment• Intranet/Internet Access through Wi-Fi for passengers• Dedicated Wi-Fi interface for Train Staff• Video surveillance• Communication with train logic (diagnostic data,information about next station and delay).


OTHER APPLICATIONSThanks to the flexible and modular architecture, the <strong>WiNNMobile</strong> <strong>V2</strong> can be employed in many other operativescenarios, providing a wide set of services and benefitsincluding:• Computational Power: due to its computational ability,the WiNN Mobile <strong>V2</strong> can act as a natural core processorfor communication related applications. The use of thiscomputing feature is enhanced by the ability to connecta keyboard and display in order to give users of the WiNNbasedsystem graphical and physical interfaces.• Integrated Networks: acting as a gateway, the <strong>WiNNMobile</strong> <strong>V2</strong> provides communication in an integratedenvironment allowing continuous operation duringmigration from legacy to new technology based systems.• Localization: the embedded GPS receiver provides anextremely high accuracy in positioning.• Local Client - Terminals: due to the wireless interfaces,to the audio-matrix, and to the wired and wireless audioaccessories, any commercial PDA devices and PMRterminals can be used to get access to the requiredservices (voice and data) and to connect to the requiredcommunication network.• Video: the WiNN Mobile <strong>V2</strong> provides multiple solutionsto connect external displays for PID application: within a100meters range the SerDes interface can be used todrive standard HD displays. For longer distance the useof IP Displays is the reference choice.
